Cops Called to Miley Cyrus' House in 'Swatting' Prank: Funny or Deadly?

There was major drama at Miley Cyrus’ house last night. Following a 911 call a little before 7 p.m., police swarmed the pop star’s home in Studio City, California. They arrived at the property -- guns drawn -- in response to reports that the pop singer was the victim of an intruder and that there was a potential hostage situation. The first piece of good news was that the “Hannah Montana” star wasn’t home. And luckily the whole thing turned out to be a hoax.

situation piece news hannah montana star home luckily turned hoax

The bad news is that it appears to be part of a new prank called “Swatting,” in which an anonymous caller reports a fabricated crime. According to officials, the joke can be extremely dangerous because when the police respond to a situation like a home intruder, they consider the circumstances extremely high risk -- hence the drawn guns on arrival.

It seems like the innocent days of Prince Albert in a can and refrigerators running are long gone. These elaborate schemes cost taxpayers money and might just put people’s lives at risk. Just imagine if Miley Cyrus, her fiancée Liam Hemsworth or some unsuspecting staffer was at the residence and had a run-in with the cops in question. What do you think: Was the swatting prank funny... or deadly?

SHE wasn't the one who called the cops. She wasn't even at home! Somebody said she was, and pulled the prank. I mean, really? Is America illiterate now?

There is all this conversation about how it was Miley who phoned it in in the first place, but I then fail to see any gender actually mentioned in the post to begin with, I wonder what would happen to all the people saying it was Miley if they ever said it was a guys face. "She lowered her voice to pretend to sound like a guy"

The person making the hoax belongs in jail. This is a waste of tax payers dollars to bring in the police and a waste of the polices time. The anxiety and stress for her family and friends is no joke or laughing matter.

If they catch a perpetrator of this dangerous prank they should charge them with filing a false report, endangering the lives of the responders and residents and bill them for the cost of the entire thing.

It is deadly stupid and will result in an unnecessary death sooner or later. Whether it's a smartass getting shot by the cops, a cop getting killed by a paranoid wacko with a weapon, or a real victim dying because the cops are out on one of these idiotic "prank" calls and not available for a real emergency, this is an unbelievably stupid thing to do.

Anyone pulling such a stupidity should be arrested and tried as a felon.

I once knew a guy with an ex wife he hated... so he waited until she was having a party, and he called the cops turning her in, telling them that a large opium deal was going down... Unfortunately for her.. she and her guests were sitting around smoking pot when the cops arrived.

This is just plain dumb. I hope whomever made the call gets prosecuted. I can understand, if you live across the street from someone that never, I mean never, gets any visitors, and you get woken up by a car stopping in front of their house and someone going in, in the middle of the night, being concerned, especially if that person is acting, or dressed, oddly. Then I would consider calling the cops, but just as a "prank"? No, and if I ever hear of any of my kids being involved in anything like this, you can be, I'll turn them over to the authorities to suffer the consequences.

With tech the way it is today the caller should be able to be caught easily . With the advent of the You Have No Privacy Rights KGB Act..ummm Patriot Act the caller's number should get them "swatted" fairly easily.

That stuff is only used when the party isn't guilty of anything, other then making some political person pissed off.

When an actual crime is committed, by an actual criminal - - Home Land Security, the FBI, and the CIA will disavow any knowledge the event ever happened, nor will they acknowledge they have any data on it.

Besides - - only HLS, the FBI and CIA are allowed access to the data and video collected by the national surveillance system. Public Law Enforcement is excluded from access.
  • meshell Profess... 2012/08/05 21:58:31

do you not have freedom of info over there?. we can access any public video surveillance(basically anything) by applying for it, ha and paying a nice fee for that info. the only reason we wont get it is if there is a crime committed and caught on tape. or it has been cleared.

The pranksters need to be tracked down and caught and then prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. And then they need to make restitution to the local government for the costs associated with the response sent out pursuant to the 911 call.

And as for the danger? The idiots aren't very bright. If somebody were to get injured or killed because of this little "prank," guess who is going to get to pay for that in court. And then I doubt they'll think this is so funny anymore.

Like I said Thursday, did the phone call come from Philadelphia (where she is w/boyfriend during movie shooting)? It's always something with Miley (almost 3x's a week) attention getting. See me: my hair is shorter, my hair is different color, i'm too skinny, see me, see me etc. ALWAYS SUMTHIN. Guess she's trying to yank on her boyfriends heartcords to "protect me" "I'm not safe without you" control methods of a very self-centered, immature, controlling brat. He'd better wise up with this one.

he dropped an apparently lovely girlfriend over here because he didnt want the distraction. of a partner while trying to get his career up and running. just to hook up with, of all the little skanks over there, Miley. what an idiot. i feel for his ex. the breakup cut him that bad he couldnt bear to be with another chick for, what a month.???? good actor but he is obviously just as stupid as her. they make a good pair.. thats 1 little outsider a lot of Aussies wont take in,

You've got a point. However, he just used going to 'America' as an excuse to get away from the Aussie. Sorry. That's what they do - very passive-agressive. But he went from the fire into the frying pan with this one. But some guys have to feel like a hero and maybe she knows that and feeds into it. How can we view it as a healthy situation when one of them is soooooooooooo unhealthy. If you get what I mean.

yeah i get what you mean by the last part, but the first bit.. Bahahahahahahaha, He is Aussie fool, he cant escape that and i doubt he tried. they go there because fools over there pay them millions to play a part in a movie, why wouldnt he go for the money. and besides that if Aussies are soooooo bad, why do Americans love them so much, why do ppl except the Indians (not the native American Indian) think Oz is an awesome place and wish to come here.????
