The gaming industry is suffering in its console department, according to CNN and that may not change anytime soon--even with the pending release of Nintendo's highly-anticipated Wii U. As recently as September, game console sales have gone down 24 percent. That has lead many industry insiders to say that console gaming is not only in a tailspin, but dying altogether.
For the last four years, console sales have fallen, along with their accessories. Meanwhile, PC games such as Diablo III and World of Warcraft's multiple expansion packs have generated record sales. Take Two Interactive's NBA 2K13 exceeded its sales expectations and that's a console game. Other console games such as Borderlands 2, Halo 4, and various Call of Duty incarnations have also seen good to great sales in recent memory.
The problem is that those are only a select few games for consoles. PCs will always be around and computer gaming has a dedicated, worldwide audience. Additionally, casual gamers may not be purchasing consoles due to smartphones and the basic, yet fun games available on Google Play and The App Store, such as Angry Birds and Words With Friends. We'll see if consoles' fates are sealed with the release of the Wii U later this month and in the coming months when Sony and Microsoft reveal their next-generation consoles.

lucky 2012/11/12 13:15:20Yes+6I dont think its so much dying as people cant afford it, the prices on games are actually going up instead of down and the price of consoles have changed very little for the popular ones. Demand is down because the gaming industry has not adjusted their prices for the current economy. They will want to make record profits when people no longer have record incomes.

Never mind the fact that if you want to get a system that won't cost you exorbitant amounts of cash and still be able to run anything, you most likely have to build it yourself. Buying a console is simply the easier choice which is why console gaming has PC gaming beat.
I own an Xbox 360, decent laptop, and iPod. I enjoy gaming on all of them but the Xbox is my go-to system for anything other than MMOs and League of Legends.
+a PS2. my computer sucks
As it is, nobody uses them except the resident 12-year-old. PC gamers are the master race.
and I also have a PS2 but it stopped working 0.o
and a PC if tht counts
this is what people purchase the most, so no the gaming console will be declining unless the console is not as usal. everything is BS, Show me the real numbers and we talk about it. I don't believe this cheat
and this is my GPU!
DEAL WITH IT!
And an old, scrap metal case, with one of these fans modded into the side
NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS1, Gamecube, Xbox 360...Gah, I love them all. But newer games? I'd prefer PC.
