Comcast Challenges Netflix: Who Will Reign Supreme?

As our latest infographic illustrates, theater attendance is down. That means alternative forms of watching movies are becoming more integral than ever, and at the top of that list is digital streaming, lead by Netflix. Aside from that marketing misstep last year, Netflix's position on the throne has been relatively safe. But now Comcast, the largest cable and Internet service provider in the country, is looking to enter the game.

Comcast will launch Xfinity Streampix this week for $5 a month, and for some Comcast customers who are already signed on with more than one of their services, it will be completely free. However, Netflix will still have more movies available, and is looking to expand its movie library to maintain that edge. It's even securing the rights to stream Weinstein Co. movies like "The Artist" before it hits HBO. Will Netflix continue to be king? Or does Comcast's Xfinity Streampix have it beat?

You pay 8 dollars a month for streaming and movies sent to your home, while Comcast charges you for cable and you get on demand, but you only get shows when you pay for the channels and they might have newer movies sooner but you have to pay to watch them while Netflix lets you watch as much as you want for that 8 to 10 dollars ( depending on how many disk you have it veries)

In a lot of areas of the USA, ComCast is not the only game in town.

I'll have to go with Netflix.

My bet is on Netflix only because I hate Comcast. What Comcast says now is free will probably end up being more than Netflix after they get you hooked. They bury all their pricing in overpriced packages anyway, so who knows! There is also other competition like Hulu and Amazon. And I agree with what someone else said about Netflix (and maybe the others) staying competitive. Anyone would want to win out over Comcast.

Comcast continues to piss me off. I've had to drive almost 20 miles to replace 4 bad boxes/remotes in less than a year's time. We call with problems, they say it's our fault. We upped our internet speed and they forgot to tell us that if we didn't update our router (I should have thought about that but I didn't) we were actually paying for nothing. They finally sent someone here and found out that there was a problem at the pole! Yeah for almost 4 years morons!! It's fixed now where's my refund!!

It’s just so pathetic and un-original when companies just sit around and copy cat every good idea their competitors achieved through being original and actual hard work. I have owned a few small businesses in the past and several times I came up with great original advertising or product ideas only to have my competitors copy cat them a few months later. You can’t pantend every good idea you have. I think companies that sit around and just copy their competitors like a bunch of parasites instead of trying to be original and come up with their own ideas are a bunch of baby cowards that just don’t have the balls to create their own ideas!

People dropped Comcast and other cable companies in favor of Netflix for the price point. When the price was 125 bucks a month for cable and internet it was too much. We quit both Comcast services and then moved to Qwest for our Internet.

I prefer Comcast because I don't watch many movies, especially new and recent movies. Just not for me. I like old movies, preferably from the '30's and 40's. Why? Because not only are they usually the original story lines for many of today's films, but I used to watch them with my mom (Bette Davis, Errol Flynn yummm) and war movies with my dad. I lost them both when I was young so it brings back alot of fond memories. Just my choice.
Comcast offers not only Retro but Turner Classic Movies. I love "The Essentials" on Saturday nights at 8pm. I often watch or dvr them. Drew Barrymore starts this Saturday night as co-host to Robert Osborne. I love the new info I learn on a classic film. It's just my thing.
I also like my history and documentaries, Comcast suits those needs.
Everyone is different and I get it. What I like many others don't, but just as many do.
Different perspectives is what makes life so interesting and absolutely precious.

    FANOW!
Netflix had their wheels come off last summer. I get 3 DVD's at a time. They went from $17 a month to $21 a month, to $26 a month in a 6 month period. The CEO needs to be replaced and hasn't. The Customer Service went from A Plus to dismal.

All that said, FANOW they are still the best thing out there. When something comes along that is better, I will bail because of what they did last year. I now have zero loyalty. I think others feel the same way too. But, I am running out of decent flicks to watch. I have seen every 5 star movie, and almost every 4 star movie that they have. I am down to 3 stars. They need fresh meat.

No service is great. Same with cell service. All choices are sub par.

I dropped Comcast because they were over charging me by putting me on a contract that I did no want, would not credit my account, make you pay more for "faster Internet" they advertise they have. I was never able to get them to credit my account for over charges, had to make an appointment to talk with a supervisor... That never called. Comcast makes lots of. Claims about customer service and their products but NEVER deliver. Their attitude is "We have you on a contract, too bad your unhappy"! I Went to Netflix and saved over 200.00 a month, no contract and Netflix delivers to my Apple TV, computers and my cable ready TVs all for about 8.00 a month. Go Netflix! I hope Comcast gets what they deserve. Comcast is also behind the push to change the Internet as we know it.... Using Comcast simply gives that company more money to screw us!

Despite all the Netflix controvery for some, I still love it. It's easy, quick, affordable, and you can get some great foreign films and martial arts films on there. Go Netflix. I also like Amazon streaming--$80/year is a good deal for some decent choices (different than Netflix ones too).

I have both and even though their selection is not really the latest movies, Netflix is far better than Comcast. Comcast selection is mostly B-movies on titles and artists I never heard of. And I am stuck on a contract with them. With Netflix at least you can order good DVDs and option of having your own list as good movies.

Netflix has had their business model in place far longer than the others, with their combined dvd rentals and streaming on demand.Blockbuster and Walmart tried to imitate the business model Netflix has been using, but both were not very successful in their efforts. I tried Blockbuster years ago and the catalog of films they had available was inferior to the number of titles available from Netflix.Plus Blockbuster's streaming quality wasn't equal to Netflix's.

Commast is not a BRAND NAME associated with on demand movies. At least not yet. Folks are still used to movies by schedule. And the cable companies tend to limit choices. Netflix has a larger online library...at least that is the perception. Quality is the same since it is through the cable company...but Netflix can move to satellite.

I like NF because Comcast PatriNUTZ has racist commercials against educated Black Men. It also went through my reservation and did not comply with Federal Law, no CLASS III, Intensive CULTURAL RESOURCES INVENTORY, sort of similar to the burn area in Reno. SAD! PISSES ME OFF! They get money for that (BLM- BIA-TRIBES), and the feds usually do not do their job - LOCAL FRICKING CONTROL, the Coyote Watching the Chicken house.

On Indian reservations I call it SELF TERMINATION the very POLICY REPUGNUTZ put together to claim TERMINATION would not OCCUR.

IT RUINED MY PEOPLE and MADE THEM SELFISH and SELF SERVING, PATHOLOGICAL, RUGGED INDIVIDUALISTS.

Much like PatriNUTZ. Much alike the gray melted pot instead of the delicious salad!
