Coachella Will Remain in Indio, CA: Where Is the Best Place for a Music Festival?

Coachella fans collectively breathed a sigh of relief on Friday when it was announced that the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will remain in Indio, California. Goldenvoice had threatened to cancel the popular hipster mecca after a local lawmaker proposed a new tax that would cost the promoters an extra $6 million a year. After taking that into consideration and realizing the economic repercussions, the lawmaker rescinded his proposal.

Are you relieved at this news -- or do you prefer to attend a music festival in a different setting, anyway? Maybe somewhere with temperatures that don't break triple digits? Just saying...

MTV.COM reports:
For a few hours on Thursday it looked like the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival might leave its Indio, California, home before a councilman who proposed a new tax suspended the action.

I'm hosting a HUGE music Festival in Manila Philppines in November 1 - 4th this year...we'll have 10 bands from around the world competing for the Rock The World title....also 25 karaoke artist from around the world competing to win.......the city is great because I can market it better in the city....but it's actually going to be outside in an arena where it will hold 20,000 people....It's going to be a blast..!!!

That's true anywhere. We've had some serious thunderstorms once in a while at the New Orleans Jazz Fest.

Yea but for instance I live next to a square in the town centre. They have a festival there every summer. This year there was heavy rain and wind so it was freezing too. I just went back home, opened the window, and enjoyed the music from my dry home

I've been to 100's of concerts, and there is no way I could ever endorse putting one on in a city, or extremely close to the coast. That being said, 90% of the concerts I've been to were in San Francisco, Berkeley, and San Jose. BUT, that was back in the late 60's through early 90's. The only shows I'll go to now, are at small venues indoors, and I know people in the bands. I sit backstage or in the preferred seating area so I don't have to be with the crowd. You couldn't PAY me enough to go to an outdoor no seating concert now! No way Jose.

Kids get WAY too drunk and/or messed up on the bad drugs out there now - the ONLY way big concerts should be put on, is somewhere AWAY from town, where there is only one way in and out, with checkpoints and tents set up to make sure nobody gets out driving under the influence. (Woodstock is a good example of why) Gee, if it's hot out, set up circus style tents, or put on the show when it's NOT hot outside.

Whatever works, but DON'T put one on where you're going to be setting loose 20,000 drunk/stoned kids on the road with everyone who isn't drunk and/or stoned. DUH?! That's just stupid and totally irresponsible.

Very pretty but hardly a festival. The New Orleans Jazz Fest has 50,000+ people on a very slow day and often tops 100,000 some days.

I think more shows should come to Portland, Maine. There isn't much going on outside of the city, but in the city itself, it's got more diners per capita than any city in America.

The best festival locations I've been to had fields for performances and fields and woods for camping. We always camped in the woods. Nice to have shade available to escape the heat.

In a field in the middle of nowhere. Preferably a multiple day festival.
