Coach Suspended for Giving Player a Ride: Fair or Foul?

Professional sports leagues often take their rules and regulations seriously, as does the NCAA when it comes to collegiate athletics. Apparently, so does the Indoor Football League. According to Deadspin, Sioux Falls Storm head coach Kurtiss Riggs had to miss a playoff game.
The reason? Riggs was suspended two games for giving defensive back Korey Askew a ride to a charity event in his 1985 Dodge van. The odd thing is that Askew was only on the team for a couple weeks and his most recent team, Colorado Ice, has released him over this um, "incident." So allegedly, that's part of the rules of the prestigious IFL.
We're not sure what other rules are part of the IFL that are borderline confusing that we didn't know about. Then again, who knew there was an IFL? Did Coach Riggs and Askew get a raw deal over a 27-year-old van? Is there some beef between teams we don't know about? We guess the moral of the story is: Proceed with caution when giving football players rides in vehicles made in the mid-80s.
