The Clutter family murders were retold in Truman Capote's book "In Cold Blood." The 1959 Clutter family murders occurred after two convicts, Richard Hickock and Perry Smith, got wind that the Clutter family had a safe on their Kansas farm.
When Hickock and Smith arrived on Clutter's farm however, they discovered that there was no safe. Hickock and Smith were angered by the revelation, and hastily murdered the Clutter family. Each family member was shot in the head with a shotgun, and the father, Herb Clutter, had his throat slit.
Richard Hickock and Perry Smith were arrested in January 1960, and executed by hanging in 1965.
Now, the Clutter family home is up for sale. Would you buy a house where someone was murdered?
