Clint Eastwood Gives Strange RNC Speech: Did It Help or Hurt Romney?

It’s that time in the campaign when candidates are bringing out the big guns and trying to chalk up the very best celebrity endorsements. Obviously, President Obama has a slew of high-profile fans including the most likeable of Hollywood’s elite like George Clooney, Sarah Jessica Parker and Tom Hanks.

So far Mitt Romney’s list hasn’t been quite as impressive. Sure he has tough guy Chuck Norris on his side. But supporter Russell Crowe was an Australian citizen, and therefore ineligible to vote. And Scott Baio isn’t quite the draw he used to be during “Joanie Loves Chachi” days. But at Thursday’s Republican National Convention, it seemed liked Romney scored a major coup when Clint Eastwood showed up to officially get behind the candidate.

clint eastwood

But “Dirty Harry” quickly went off script and started addressing an invisible Obama in the form of an empty chair. Having one of the most beloved movie icons and former Mayor of Carmel, California, looked like it would be a slam dunk for the Romney-Ryan ticket. But Eastwood’s odd performance might have created too big a distraction from Mitt’s ultimate message. What do you think: Did Clint Eastwood help or hurt Romney's campaign?

Everybody is talking about it. Liberals hated it. If liberals hated it, it helped the Romney campaign.

We own this country. (That is all the people. Not just the liberals) The politicians work for us. If somebody is not doing the job, you gotta let them go.

What is so freaking hard to understand about that?

Clint was innovative and showed the skills of a master of the stage. He dominated that stage for 12 minutes and his mastery is what the democrats are trying to spin in their propaganda machine as weird. The truth is that Clint was awesome. What makes anyone think the democrats are ever going to let truth get in the way?

I suppose Eastwood's delusional rants made about as much sense as other parts of the "Convention". It was a way to distract from the expectation of the viewing public to being told how Mitten and Robin were going to achieve their promised "balanced budgets"
by reducing Federal revenues by further tax cuts and making "twelve million jobs" without
stimulating the economy by making another war. Clint would have done better to take his
act to Saturday Night Live. I'm surprised they didn't invite Don Rickles to make a "speech".

Of course, some live in recollections of "the past", often not accurate pictures of what really was. Others look forward and try to make tomorrow better than today or yesterday. The former are within the definition of "conservatives", and the latter are known as "progressives". Therein lies our choices of how we fit into the scheme of things in this world and our political orientations.

When you mention " conservative " , you're talking about my favorite president, Better than Washington or Kennedy ever were, and at the same level as Lincoln, that's Ronals Reagan. He had balls, I remmeber what made me start admiring him, when he told the world ; " I don't caer if they don't like us, but they sure as hell gonna respect us ". And when i started reading about him, and found out that in the 50's, there were many who wanted him dead , mainly russians.

After attending a small dinner and speech by Reagan, prior to the election, a senior partner of my firm who attended with me asked, "Why would anyone want to destroy the U.S. Government"? Later, after the election, I attended a briefing by Reagan's Cabinet Secretaries to advise what the programs and plans they would call "Reaganomics" and "supply side economics" would do. We spent the rest of the afternoon at a local pub discussing how these plans would destroy American's real estate industry and the fiduciary duties of the banking system and create conditions similar to those that preceeded the Great Depression. Our fears were wholly realized by these carefully laid plans and careful execution over thirty years.

We agreed that Reagan was a fine actor who could say his lines with conviction and "communicate" as no other President since FDR could do. But, what he said did not always comport with the plans and intent of those who were behind the scenes working to pillage and plunder all that was measured in $Dollars from wherever it was found. I also like his demeanor and his words. But, the results of "Reaganomics" have yet to be fully felt in the U.S. or around the world. The worst is likely yet to come, perhaps depending on how the election turns out this year.

I'll tell you something about Richard Nixon , I liked him , there has been worse things then WATERGATE committed by our trusted polititians, BUT, if it weren't for him, we'd still be out in Viet Nam. Do you believe our Beloved Uncle Sam how he paid all the Nam veterans back ?, , THE USA NEVER ISSUED A DECLARATION OF WAR vs NAM, that's why t they are NOT consider to be war veterans, and that trully suuuucks.

I agree that "sucks", as you describe. But, consider that there was no "enemy" in Vietnam, just an idea, an internal political movement
between Ho Chi Minn and his followers and the Dictator that our CIA
"operatives" had already assassinated. Certainly the old men, women and children we incinerated with our napalm bombs were not "enemies" we could declare a war against. It's hard to describe how to word a declaration of war against an idea.

Polititans have amended , changed the wording in the laws years after it has happenned. For the sake of so many american kids that went over there , gaved everything and never returned, i would change it , because they were shooting at our kids, they were being killed. here are 2 petitions of 66 I have running on 5 petition sites, regarding this very point. Change the wording Let there be a national day

I can share your compassion for all who served in Vietnam, and forgive them for what they did there, as ordered by the chain of command. However, I can't share any desire for the nation to further
embarrass itself by trying to justify what we did there. We were wrong, totally and unforgivingly wrong, to invade that country and destroy it as we did. Of course "they" were shooting at our troops, with the old rifles given to them by the Chinese, left over from WWI. Had they invaded Texas or California we would have been shooting at them with more modern weapons in defense of our homeland.

I have to respectfully disagree, embarrasment and everything else you stated it's nothing compare to what it's owe to these veterans, simple as that. And I wouldn't even say embarrasment, i would say that the USA goverment has enough balls and dignity to admit when they did a mistake or failed to do the rigth thing.

Obviously we agree. There are two different questions in the discussion. One is to adequately respect those who served. The other is to again raise the issue of what we did there. I'll support
all efforts to increase the first. But, the opinion of the world and our own citizens demands we leave the second matter to the pages of history.

O.k., let me put it to you this way ; if a teenager were to suddenly surface in your life, stating you was his father, from a long forgotten fling, would you accept him and let the world know? or would you ignore him knowing he was your son ?
because if you did it, it would disgrace your image before the world ? Accepting past failures and mistakes isn't bad at all, our vets will gain what the totally and completly deserve, among it RESPECT like the rest of this great countrie's veterans.

There is no hiding from the world the bastard child that is our Vietnam experience. No one has attempted to hide it. It is an elephant under our living room carpet.

The Vietnam veterans served as ordered by the chain of command and deserve the respect of the nation for the duty
they performed. However, I don't expect the nation will make
any great effort to recall their services. Like the veterans of the Civil War who fought for the Confederacy, they are trapped between two extremes of judgement. Denying them any pension, care, or benefit accorded to any other veteran is unjust and should be corrected if such remains.

You seem to use this insult a lot. I guess if you just call someone who disagrees with you a drug addict, you don't have to come up with an intelligent response. The rnc was a sham and full of lies. If you heard Clinton's speech, which consisted of actual facts, you would realize how misinformed you really are. Oh wait, Clinton smoked pot so he is obviously just crazy.

The democrats have not focused on the economy that is for sure! However, Obama sure likes his parties and spending taxpayer’s money. In fact, according to Obama we are doing just fine. Foods stamps at its highest and still many go hungry and barely get by from week to week.
Obama is not fit to be President; Communist’s and unholy organizations and dictators fund his campaigns along with Hollywoods bi-sexual, more filth… George Clooney is not a decent person, using woman. Sarah Jessica Parker, sex and the city, you have to be kidding, what have these people did for you, besides pollute your kids.

Where are Obama’s credentials and why is he not impeached? Vote Obama out in November!

Bush didn't change. He still drinks and probably still does cocaine and punches hookers. He only became governor and then president because of who his father is, the same can be said for romney if he gets elected. The only reason obama was allowed to be elected was because he's black, and its easier to demonize someone who doesn't look like you. The fact that he's more intelligent than most cons just adds to their fear because, let's be honest, conservatives feed off the fear of working class white americans. If they can divide us, and make us believe we are different, then we can't work together to help ourselves.

Sometimes, it is a matter of removing the worse OUT... to a great degree I agree about there all the same as far as being a politician..HOWEVER in this election, what is EXTREMELY important is that we are in EXTREME, unsustainable DEBT, 1 in 5 people are out of work or under-employed, this president kowtows to dictators/enemies, accepts gifts from them, and hasn't a clue how to turn the economy around...now with an open mind..consider this.
....Romney has turned around FAILING businesses, turned around a failing Olympic, has made a great deal of money (hey that is good!- as wouldn't you like the FREEDOM to do that if you get a great business idea and worked hard at it?)..he of the two has DONE IT, he KNOWS how, WE NEED THIS SKILL NOW!!, As if we stay on this destructive course for another 4 years, you, a young man will NOT have the opportunities,we had and neither will your children...I want more for my son and daughter and myself... think...this is about YOU, not them!

Sorta like wishing for a rapist to visit you in the night when you are alone in your bed and wishing for some "copanionship", isn't it? Romney took his "money" from the proceeds of selling American companies to China and "outsourcing" jobs to China and India. Is this someone you would really want to be in charge of the Pentagon and the largest employer in the Nation? What would China pay for half the jobs in the Pentagon, maybe the "Procurement Section" and the "Fleet Operations" data center? Be careful what you wish for.

Because "stellar businessman", Mitt Romney, made his millions borrowing huge sums of money that others had to pay back. Why hasn't this been mentioned more? He is counting on the media NOT to be smart enough to get this. Mitt Romney is a debt creator. Maybe Clint shouldn't have said anything about business acumen. We would hate for the word to get out.
