Classic Video Game Characters Brought to Life: Awesome or Uncomfortable?

Super Mario is, without a doubt, a "timeless" character, as are Yoshi, Bowser, and Princess Peach. But timeless doesn't necessarily mean they're unaffected by the passing of time. Next to the realism available to us now in games like "Skyrim," "Modern Warfare 3," "Crysis 2," and the like, even the newest Mario games are exceedingly cartoony. They kind of have to be. To inject the Italian plumber with too much realism would be... creepy.
That's where Yahoo's "Game Characters Get Real" slideshow comes in. They compiled six realistic images of classic Nintendo characters and one power-up -- Mario, Yoshi, Bowser, Peach, Pac-Man, Pikachu, and mushroom from Mario. (A mushroom, not Toadstool. Although we really wish there was a good realistic Toadstool image out there.) Visit Yahoo! for all of the images, and let us know if you think they're awesome -- or downright disturbing (we're looking at you, Mario.)

However, I don't think that the compilation on Yahoo really shows what I would consider to be "realistic," with the images they chose. For instance with Mario, they gave him realistic textures, but they kept the same cartoony proportions, which is what gives it the creepy factor. For most video game characters, if you want to see what they'd look like in real life, find a good cosplay of them. cosplay.com is an excellent source for that. (For example: This picture of Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy http://www.cosplay.com/photo/... )
Some should be cartoony because that's just what they are. Cartoons that defy realism, and always should.

Ahem...
Pikachu and peach are the reason why I say awesome. Pikachu is just so adorable I want to cuddle it.
My poor yoshi.... ;-;
I just wish they did not ask so much money for one. $15.00 at an Easter sale is too high. All the characters all doing well, though...for all the video games. They seem to be much more popular than Disney dolls.
Plus he didn't even make the characters that realistic - just drew them to his own liking.
Oh yea totally - that's exactly how Yoshi would look like in real life. *grimaced smile*
