Classic Rock Albums: Queen...A Night At The Opera

At the age of 14 I purchased A Night At The Opera by Queen. The band hadn't broken big yet and Bohemian Rhapsody hadn't begun getting airplay yet. I don't really remember why I bought the album as I'd never heard anything by them before but the press was good and they sounded interesting and unique...unique to say the least. At first listen the album didn't connect with me...in fact I thought this album sucks and was thinking of how to return it...another listen...hmmm another...wow this stuff is really good and eventually Queen was my favorite band in my teenage years....highlighted by Freddie Mercury's incredible vocals and range and the expert musicianship of Brian Taylor, Roger Taylor and John Deacon this band was destined for stardom...little did I realize at the time just how big this album would become and what superstars Queen would become. Highlighted by Bohemian Rhapsody and You're My Best Friend this has to be one of the greatest albums ever produced. I've included a number of the tracks from the album in the slideshow and started it off with the Prophets Song which showcase Freddie's awesome range...enjoy.

Freddie Mercury was simply amazing. Love Queen songs. Went to see Jon McGlothlin at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, the first act with a yet released album was Lynyrd Skynyrd, blew us all away with Freebird.

I've listened to Queen all my life. I didn't realize how much I loved them until Freddie died. I was 15. I know that sounds weird, but I got to thinking when I heard the news, how many of their songs I loved. And what they meant to me. As much as I love Klaus Meine, and AARGH!, you know I do, I think Freddie had the greatest voice and presence Rock music has ever seen. Brian May has his own unique and beautiful sound as well. Great band! Thanks as always for the post.
