Christian Bale Bails on Batman: Can the Franchise Survive?

Critics of Christian Bale's "bat voice" might be pleased to hear this, but what it means for the "Batman" franchise remains to be seen. The "Dark Knight Rises" star recently announced that he would be hanging up the Batsuit once and for all. That doesn't mean the series is done, but it's tough to imagine the films continuing with a new Caped Crusader.

Bale told The Philippine Daily Inquirer, "I wrapped a few days ago so that will be the last time I’m taking that cowl off. I believe that the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it’s all done. Everything’s finished. It’s me and Chris – that will be the end of that Batman era."

According to Nick Nadel of FilmCritic.com, this could also be director Christopher Nolan's last Batman film. He wrote, "We all suspected that The Dark Knight Rises would be Bale and Nolan's swan song, although many fans wondered whether Bale would sign on for a fourth film without his director. Now we know that Bale is officially saying goodbye to the franchise."

Bailing? He isnt bailing, he said once Nolan is done he is done. There is nothing wrong with making a TRILOGY and not milking off the name.

Jim Caviezel would make a perfect Batman. He would also make a great Bruce Wayne.

As much as I love Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, it is possible to make the franchise again. It's going to be hard since Chris Nolan did such an amazing job, but he's not bailing. Nolan was only going to do three movies. Don't make it sound as if Nolan was planning another movie and Bale was like "No. I'm done." It was planned to be a trilogy.

He is the best Batman since Adam West. I understand why Bale doesnt want to continue because he does not want to be sterotyped but he is a great actor and can play any role.

Well, here's the thing: This franchise will not survive simply because it was never meant to. It was meant to be a trilogy and nothing more. Naturally, DC will not let Batman the character die with this film, but the Nolan/Bale franchise is definitely over. Any new Batman movie will have to find its own beginning, leaving this particular series alone.

The franchise has been around since before Bale was born. It survived Adam West's ego and George Clooney it should be safe.

The Batman franchise is very much like the James Bond series of movies. There have been many Bonds, some good, some bad, and still we are fascinated enough to keep right on watching. Somethings just never get old...Just a thought...

But do I have to remind everyone about George Clooney in Batman and Robin? Case closed. No Nolan, or Bale... I will be happy with these three movies.

But batman makes money, so....of COURSE they will keep making batman movies.

Of course it will survive, just look at the history of the Batman movies. Which date back as far as the late 1940s.

YES....It was Lewis Wilson in 1943, Robert Lowery in 1949, Adam West in 1966, Michael Keaton in 1989 & 1992, Val Kilmer in 1995, George Clooney in 1997 and finally Christian Bale in 2005 & 2008, I "THINK" the franchise will survive yet another blow to the Dark Knight. Let's face it, has anyone ever seen BATMAN die? NO!

But good luck finding someone sexier all wrapped up in the suit.

It's survived this whole time without Bale, and what made Dark Knight such a prolific film was not Bale's performance, but Ledger's as the Joker. Just get the voice actor for Arkham Asylum/City to do it, and wabam!

Although Christian Bale was my second favorite batman even with the voice change I though that was a nice twist to through people of that he was Bruce Wayne sounded nothing like him.Anyway with the amount of people that played Batman from Adam West to Christian Bale it has almost become a tradition to have a new Batman every movie
so why should this one be any different
