This is turning out to be quite the year for 28-year-old Chris Hemsworth! "The Avengers" smashed box office records and "Snow White and the Huntsman" is on track to open well in June, but most importantly the Aussie actor got to witness the birth of his firstborn child.

Hemsworth and his 35-year-old wife Elsa Pataky, a Spanish actress, confirmed to USA Today that their daughter was born on Friday in London. The couple, who married in December 2010, decided to name their baby girl India Rose Hemsworth.

"We love the country and love the name," Hemsworth told USA Today.

India may not be named after her mother’s homeland (Spain), but Pataky is determined that her daughter will learn to speak her native tongue. When the couple announced their pregnancy in January, Pataky told Hola! magazine, “I’m only going to speak to the baby in Spanish. I already told my husband, ‘Get ready fast with Spanish because, if not, you’re not going to be able to understand what we say.’”

I think it's better than Apple, Moses, Blue, Egypt, and Bronx Mowgli. I think it's kind of pretty and close enough to normal to pass. I wouldn't name my child India, but hey.

The name is adorable I can tell the baby will be as beautiful as her name, but it does have that Hollywood flare! Super Cute and I love Chris and Liam Hemsworth so its a given, the baby's parents are hot

I know a few girls with no Asian roots named India, some call them selves Indi for short.
I even have a cousin named India.
Its a beautiful name meaning 'body of water'.

"The word "India" is a Western transliteration of the Sanskrit word "Sindhu," meaning "body of water." It specifically refers to what we know today as the Indus river, though the word could be used for any large body of water.

India became popular as a first name in the age of British imperialism, often to show support for the colonisation of the subcontinent."

So actually, the name India with any Asian roots would be laughable because the word is 'western'.

This is too cute. I would call her Indie though. But India Rose is a nice name. And Elsa is a very lucky lady!
When I first saw Chris on Home And Away I thought, meh! He's cute..

I don't think the fact there Hollywood stars that it makes a different. Yes attack their clothes, acting, public displays, bodies, but please leave their kids out of it. Far out. Half of you think Hunter and Harlow and Willow are the best names...India Rose is a nice name. Butt out other people.

For some reason when i first read this, I read it as Indiana Rose. I thought, well that actually has a nice ring to it, and the kid might be able to pull it off well.
Then I saw India Rose, and it definitely doesn't roll off the tongue well...
