This is turning out to be quite the year for 28-year-old Chris Hemsworth! "The Avengers" smashed box office records and "Snow White and the Huntsman" is on track to open well in June, but most importantly the Aussie actor got to witness the birth of his firstborn child.

Hemsworth and his 35-year-old wife Elsa Pataky, a Spanish actress, confirmed to USA Today that their daughter was born on Friday in London. The couple, who married in December 2010, decided to name their baby girl India Rose Hemsworth.

"We love the country and love the name," Hemsworth told USA Today.

India may not be named after her mother’s homeland (Spain), but Pataky is determined that her daughter will learn to speak her native tongue. When the couple announced their pregnancy in January, Pataky told Hola! magazine, “I’m only going to speak to the baby in Spanish. I already told my husband, ‘Get ready fast with Spanish because, if not, you’re not going to be able to understand what we say.’”

"Annoyingly Hollywood" would be a name like Pilot Inspektor. India Rose is actually an adorable name for a girl. Congratulations to them.

It's kind of pretty but for some reason it makes me think of the service rep I get when I call Dell. I don't see it as annoyingly Hollywood.

I wouldn't go as far as super cute but it is not an awful name like so many Hollywood types choose. I like unusual names but prefer old ethnic names.

I actually have a dear friend in her 70's whose mother was named India. It is not as unique as the hollywoodites might believe.

they needed a third check off that says it is their family , and none of our SH business to tell them how or what to name their children, and after all when the kid gets old enough if he or she does not like the given name , they can petition the Court to have it changed and that should show the Parents how stupid they were to name their kid something stupid, nothing like total rejection of your idea by everyone else to show you just how stupid that you were. So their you go , another problem straightened out within a family with no outside help from a bunch of nothing else to do , do gooders .

i did not say that the kids name is stupid , did not say that at all, i was saying that is the business of the family , not us on SH. now if the kid grows up and thinks it is stupid and wants to change there is a method for that in the courts , and instead of all of us telling those parents what is stupid or not , their own kids can show them.(or not) Thus all of the fuss was handled within their own family unit and we can go on to other more pressing problems. It's not a terrible name! But as someone of Indian descent I find it awkward to use as a name just because I've heard it used in other contexts so often my whole life.

Imagine someone being named "Canada." It's probably not unheard of, but it feels distracting. Had an acquaintance named London as a kid and I could never get past her name and pay attention to her/what she was saying.

It's not as bad as some of the other celebrity child names. If you going to name your daughter after a middle eastern country at least it's not Turkey, Iran, or Pakistan.

I'm not racist. I was simply making an analogy of how ridiculous giving your child a name of a country is. It just happened to be a country in the middle east. Canada, China and Uganda..... also bad girl names. Capich??
