Cheryl Cole Given Boot From Judging 'X Factor' Reportedly Over Her Accent: Fair?

Remember Cheryl Cole, the unfamiliar name that was dropped along with Paula Abdul and L.A. Reid as the judges for the American version of "X Factor"?

Yeah, neither do we.

But that doesn't matter, because MTV reports that she's been replaced anyway, though it's not just because most American audiences have never heard of her.

A spokesperson for "X Factor" did not return requests for comment at press time, but TMZ added that former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger, who was to serve as one of two hosts on the show, was tapped to replace Cole.

The gossip site later explained that Cole was removed "largely because producers were concerned her thick Newcastle English accent would be too difficult for an American audience to understand," citing unnamed sources close to the show.

MTV also reports that Cole and Abdul didn't get along, though we think that would have been a selling point.

She was the only reason I wanted to watch the show. Now I don't know if I'll bother. Simon Cowell is a douche.

Americans can't handle the fact that there are people out there who are NOT American.
I saw Martin Henderson on television and even he had to speak with a funny American accent.
PS. Martin Henderson is a New Zealander.

    Accents are Hot.
Just look at Cowell, he is not very good looking *emphasis in the Very*, yet women adore him because of his accent.
    My mother included.
Yet again, my mother seems to be worst that those horny teenagers.
She loves every single 40+ famous men there is... well mostly.

I was a bit ticked off that they said the producers axed her becasue they thought the American public wouldn't be able to understand her accent...if that's the case then the producers obviously think that the American public are as thick as two short planks. Quite frankly I'm insulted as I'm an American and I can understand her perfectly.

It is really hard to understand her but just because of that she should not have been axed as she tried and took elocution lessons to overcome that. She reportedly been axed from the Uk X-Factor too.Something more behind this.

Sharon Osborne and Piers Morgan have the same accent and they are still on the show. I find it hard to believe this is the reason. I think there must be more to this story.

She's only a former contestant anyway. I personally don't think that is enough to judge others. Its people like Simon Cowel, sharon Osbourn and Louis Walsh who have been working in the industry a lot of years who are best qualified to judge.

Cheryl Cole is one of the best judges I have seen on any of these talent shows, especially on the UK X-Factor. This show produced many great acts, and I hope the US version will be half as good. As for her accent, I can understand her speech much better than I could Paula's. Cheryl is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen, and she doesn't even have to try. C'mon Simon, give us something nice to look at, and not some ugly thing like Steven Tyler. I pity Jennifer Lopez being sandwiched in between Tyler and Jackson.

It's basically racism. I'm from the UK and I <3 Cheryl Cole, along with most of the people from the UK, she's one of out 10000000000000 "nation's sweethearts" and it's just mean to axe her because she's Geordie (from Newcastle for people who don't know what that is), her accent is lovely, unlike most American accents which are grating and just plain annoying.

    (Edited part)
Also contrary to American opinion, everyone in England doesn't speak super posh. There is more to England than London.

what are you talking about, everyone in london, don't speak posh, only a very small amount,i don't like coley, but i love geordie accents,i have many friends from newcastle.

I didn't say everyone in London speaks posh, I said that Americans appear to think that every British person speaks posh. It's nice that you have friends from Newcastle, but they clearly haven't told you when to use commas, to put spaces after commas and to capitalise place names. :)
  • john iamsupe... 2011/05/28 23:12:12
    john
this is a chat, not a school,if you can't understand what i write, don't answer and while you are about knit picking, you put "out instead of our",little miss clever clogs.and who said there was not more to england than london.
  • iamsupe... john 2011/05/29 21:20:35
    iamsupergirl
I'm only replying because people who can't type properly annoy me.
My putting out instead of our is simply a typo, whereas you putting silly commas and not capitalising is bad grammar. I am clever, thank you for realising :)
Finally, no specific person said London is all there is to England, it's just a view I think some Americans might have, but some English people have the view that New York is all there is to America which I'm sure is incorrect.
I hope you realise you have been defeated. Thank you and Good Night :)
  • john iamsupe... 2011/05/29 21:41:26

you are the rudest person i have come across on here and i don't think that many english people think that new york is all we think of america, for you to come on an american chat and say that most americans' accents are grating and annoying is an insult to them and for you to get annoyed that i won't put capitals, proves what a childish little girl you are.just grow up.
  • iamsupe... john 2011/05/29 21:49:25

I'm not rude, I'm simply short-tempered and outspoken, and if you consider that rude, then so be it.
I didn't say New York is all YOU think of America, I said it was what some English people think of America.
Yes I did say that most American accents are annoying, but some aren't.
I'm not annoyed that you haven't put capitals, I was just saying and you have majorly over-reacted.
How can you call me a childish little girl, when you don't know my age, for all you know I could be older than you.
I will grow up, eventually, just not anytime soon :)
  • john iamsupe... 2011/05/29 21:58:02

being a student,so i don't think you could possibly older than me,but you should do something about your temper and ther is a fine line between outspoken and rude, you said you were annoyed that i did not put capitals,so i never over-reacted,you might be a nice girl for all i know, but you sometimes sound rude, love yer.

I could be a mature student. :) (I'm not but you don't know that!) I'm not bothered about my temper, the only damage it's ever done is when I threw a Wii remote at my brothers' head and now he has a scar....
I didn't say that you not putting capitals annoyed me, I said that people who don't type properly annoy me. You did overreact.
I am I nice girl, although I hate the word nice.

you would have to be a very mature student to be older than me and i bet your brother don't think your that nice and i did not overreact,i did not,i did not,i did not, have a nice, whoops, wonderful bank holiday.
