Lindsay Lohan has made the transformation into Elizabeth Taylor.

The 25-year-old actress began pre-production on the new Lifetime film Liz & Dick, which will follow the roller-coaster relationship between Taylor and Richard Burton (Grant Bowler), who were married and divorced twice. TMZ.com snapped a few shots of Lohan during a smoke break. Check them out here.

Playing Taylor is just the latest in Lohan's comeback after years of legal trouble. (Her probation, stemming from a 2007 DUI, ended March 29.) She hosted Saturday Night Live in March and played herself as a Nationals judge on Glee.

Lindsay Lohan has gone to the dark side ... as she begins production on her new Liz Taylor film.

We got this pic of Lindsay taking a cigarette break during a pre-production photo shoot and lighting test.

Lindsay reluctantly had her hair cut and dyed to mimic Taylor.

We're told Lindsay believes the "Liz and Dick" movie will re-start her career by showcasing her talents ... ya know, besides these.

I am not sure who I would name to have played Liz Taylor, but it wouldn't have been Lohan; she doesn't have the class.

What's the big deal? Ya'll try to look like famous people all the time. The question doesn't ask whether or not Lindsay has as much class Ms. Taylor. It asks if Lindsay can play her in a movie. They don't look THE SAME but yes Lindsay to play her, no doubt.

Elizabeth, who hated being called "Liz", was considered one of the most, if not the most, beautiful woman ever. Whomever decided Lohan should play her obviously does even more drugs than she.
