Charlie Sheen Gives $75K Gift to Cancer Patient: Is He Generous or Does He Just Want Good Press?

It seems that Charlie Sheen’s pockets have been getting pretty deep lately. Not long after helping out Lindsay Lohan with her tax troubles to the tune of $100,000 (something LiLo has apparently not thanked him for yet), he has just given $75,000 to help a young girl fight cancer.

According to TMZ, the “Anger Management” star recently had a conversation with a Hermosa Beach police officer, who told him about another cop whose daughter had been diagnosed with Childhood Rhabdomyosarcoma, a form of muscle tissue cancer that requires a year of expensive treatment.

Charlie allegedly said “No parent should have to watch their kid go through that," and donated a check to the Hermosa Beach Police Association’s fund for 10-year-old Jasmine. His stunt double, Eddie Braun, who earns far less than Sheen does, also donated $25,000. Do you think Charlie Sheen is a generous guy -- or is he just interested in good press?

If he just wanted good press, he would have given that money to a charity, and bragged about it. Instead, he gave it to a specific person for a specific use and didn't make some platitudinous statement about how cancer was a big issue and needed more money for treatment, blah blah blah.

I think everyone just needs to leave him alone!! Evidently he has changed his life for the good, so stop trying to pick at every thing he does to find something wrong, people can change, and I believe he has for the good, so hooray for him!!!!! Thats the trouble with people today, they are so quick to judge, everyone has things they are not proud of or wish they could have changed, and he has, so leave it alone and let him do something good for someone without critizing him for everything he does, does it always have to be something negative about someone doing something good??

Most of his bizarre behavior has been about him, but we have seen nothing to suggest that he was not a humanitarian. Awesome Charlie!

I do believe he really wanted to do something good for his publicity for a change. I guess it's a bit of both?

He's a really good guy, in my opinion. He just chooses to do things that make him look like a bad person.

My guess is he is trying to change his public image so someone will want to give him a job again; and/or he is hoping to buy some good will with the police.
  • Matt Simms 2012/12/14 14:50:53

he already has a job again... 90 episodes of Anger management start rolling out around January... as Charlie has a 40% equity stake I don't think he will be needing to change his public image at all - his public image is what is helping his career...

good point about buying goodwill with the police though!!! if he wakes up one morning with a dead hooker in his bed he knows exactly which policeman to call...

You are right, I just saw that. They were only supposed to pick up the 90 if it was successful. Granted the premiere was a record viewership, but the ratings steadily dropped each week. Crazy!

Both. He was being generous. He was also seeking good press.

It's quite possible for someone to be genuinely charitable, and to want to get something out of it themselves, at the same time.

Seeing everything in life in "either-or, but not both" terms isn't always very wise.

Of course he's generous. Don't be ridiculous. He didn't have to do anything. If an unknown person had given the story would never have hit the press. So maybe he could have done it anonymously. Then again, maybe he could have not done anything at all. When was the last time any of us have done something like that?

Then why bother to vote? If you don't care one way or the other your vote shouldn't count and should be stricken from the record.

i really like charlie and when he was on the show. but i wouldnt waste 75k on trying to look good for people i dont know or care about im pretty sure he did it for the kids. i would do it for people who really need it besides the only reason id wastes that much money for the press is if i make a park with some crazy stuff in it.

I think he is generous, a little wacky for sure, but he is generous-and that is what counts in this life KINDNESS & give back and helping the less fortunate
I am barely surviving and trying to get my farm off its feet after a wonderful trial run this year in raising humanely raised pastured meats-- IT WILL WORK, I see that for sure now ..but with all our money problems I feel like we are carrying a bag weighing a ton up a heavy waterfall with lose sand beneath my feet..tried to get funding on indiegogo & go fund me but it is all about a popularity contest these days, not real people who enjoy private tranquil times raising their livestock like me...

I hope you do well. It's good to see a farmer keeping up her end of the bargain when it comes to her livestock. Too many farmers these days only care about profits with little concern for the happiness and comfort of their animals.
