On Wednesday night, the underdog Philadelphia 76ers left it all out on the basketball court against the Boston Celtics to force a Game 7 in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Boston Celtics team leader Kevin Garnett caused some controversy before Game 6, saying that Philadelphia fans are “fair weathered” and not as loud as they are in Boston. Memo to KG: Boston fans weren't filling up seats when the Celtics were no good either -- and that was before the bad economy.
But don't tell him we said that. We don't want to get dunked on... The Sixers fans took Garnett's comments to heart and willed head coach Doug Collins' team to a 82-75 victory. Quite frankly, the game wasn't always pretty. Both teams shot horrendously the first three quarters, despite really good looks, but in the NBA playoffs, a win is a win and the Philly crowd never let up support for their team.
Sixers legend and semiretired multi-time All-Star Allen Iverson was also in attendance for Game 6 to give his former team even more motivation than they already had. Whether it's their heart, determination, support of their fans, or all of the above, no matter what happens Game 7, the Sixers have already overachieved in many eyes and put together a season they should be proud of.
But hat doesn't mean they're done yet. Game 7 is in Boston and will decide who reaches the Eastern Conference Finals. The Sixers are the underdogs and they know it -- not that it's stopped them from putting the Celtics on the edge before. Who wins Game 7: the Boston Celtics or the Philadelphia 76ers?
