CBS Announces (Fake) 'Dancing With the Stars' Spoof: Funny or Mean?

CBS recently lost a legal battle with ABC after alleging that the network's new series "The Glass House" was a rip-off of "Big Brother." Instead of getting mad, CBS got even with a fake press release announcing a "Dancing With the Stars" spoof called "Dancing on the Stars." The premise is simple: Contestants participate in a dance-off at the Hollywood Forever cemetery, where stars like Peter Lorre and Janet Gaynor are buried.

When reached for comment, a spokesperson said, "This very creative enterprise will bring a new sense of energy and fun that’s totally unlike anything anywhere else, honest. Given the current creative and legal environment in the reality programming business, we're sure nobody will have any problem with this title or our upcoming half-hour comedy for primetime, Postmodern Family ... After all, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

But they both have pretty similar shows like Once Upon a Time and Grimm, then some new law show they both had with similar a premises (I didn't like either so I don't remember the names), or another like Sherlock and Elementary.

Sounds stupid, not so much mean. CBS shows aren't doing as great as they were in the 2000s, when they ruled primetime air. ABC dominates primetime now, and I think CBS is bitter.

And also a little bit funny.

I'm really sick of CBS ripping off other shows--whether they're joking or not. Their new show "Elementary" is such a complete and total rip-off of "Sherlock," I cannot even believe it. It infuriates me. "Sherlock" is a brilliant show, created and penned by the fantastically talented Stephan Moffat and Mark Gaitiss. "Elementary" cannot possibly compete--and the fact will remain that CBS clearly stole the idea from BBC! Disgusting...

CBS is just jelous because they don't have any decent programs anybody would ever want to watch. So, they think they are so smart by making fun of successful shows.

Then again, I always thought those shows were spoofs. With the exception of Kelly Clarkson from season 1 of American Idol.

The anti-white media has a bunker mentality like the rest of the anti-white leadership.

They act like everything`s normal even though white people are demanding they answer to the charge of genocide:
Africa for the Africans,Asia for the Asians, white countries for EVERYBODY!

    Anti-racist is a codeword for anti-white.

I didn't think that this joke would be based on the poor taste of dancing on people's graves.
Hollywood Forever apparently has some sort of facilities and free lawn space as they have a calendar of cultural events. Some events take place at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever.

The best humor always plays off peoples taboos.... One of our strangest taboos is the 'respect' shown corpses which is probably a genetic and cultural echo of a time when corpses often still carried the diseases that killed the victim and could still spread that disease. Anything that makes people squeamish (sex, body waste, religious beliefs, death, racism, etc) is a rich opportunity for humor.
  • sglmom BigFig#9 2012/06/23 16:46:55
    sglmom
    NOT at all ..
    quite frankly ..
we should respect the person .. even in DEATH ..
(even if they were true monsters .. that was their life choice .. now bury them and not dance on the graves)
for the nature of the person in their LIFE

There's NO .. absolutely NO "humor" in death ..
in fact .. there's a lot of emotional, mental, psychic 'pain' (in terms of the grief process)
in terms of those who have Military Service ..
we know what DEATH looks like ..
and the thought that some SICK, TWISTED .. disgusting abomination would find this an opportunity for 'humor' .. is DISGUSTING and monstrous indeed ..

Curiosity more than anything here - does humor involving other taboo subjects (sex, homosexuality, masturbation, excrement, urine, etc...) also 'turn you off' or is it limited to death? (No judgment at all here but I'm trying to ascertain if my general theory is true or if some people are more impacted by one taboo while others are more sensitive to others...)
  • sglmom BigFig#9 2012/06/23 21:23:33

    Quite Frankly ..
NONE of those are in the least 'funny' or 'humorous' ..

TMI is operative here .. DO NOT 'share' everything .. leave a bit of 'mystery' overall ..

That's fine and it actually supports my assumption that some folks sense of humor is always eclipsed by a 'sense of decency'. I think that's how most people used to be but , for better or worse, we're in a time now where very little is 'off limits'.
