In
late 2013, country music superstar Carrie Underwood will get the opportunity to star in NBC's special broadcast of "The Sound of Music." In a live performance based on the world-famous musical, the former "American Idol" winner will play the role of Maria von Trapp--the woman who inspired "The Sound of Music."
While Underwood has had a ton of
success in music, this will be her biggest break in acting to date. Underwood's filmography mostly boasts appearances as herself, but she's played fictional characters on hit shows like
How I Met Your Mother and
Sesame Street. She also starred in the 2011 American drama film
Soul Surfer.
"The Sound of Music" is based on Maria von Trapp's book
The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. The musical showcased some of the most
memorable songs of the last century, which Underwood will be performing, including "My Favorite Things," Do-Re-Mi," "Every Mountain," and of course, "The Sound of Music." Underwood has to live up to a lot of hype, but based on her past success, she looks to be more than up for the challenge.
I hate the lazy hollywood writers who fail to create any original idea... that they have to revamp a classic.
The original is still a win,
The revamp is destine to be a failure.
I read it and understood it wrong.
I read "NBC's special broadcast of "The Sound of Music."
But I must have skipped "In a live performance based on the world-famous musical"
The real question is why do they have to do this project at all. Just show the film. But I guess there's lots of people ready to stuff their pockets with advertisers' money, so go for it.
