Carly Rae Jepsen continues to break records, as this week marks her ninth time in the No. 1 slot on the Billboard Hot 100 for her hit song, "Call Me Maybe." Nine weeks is the longest run for any artist in the US this year; Jepsen beat out Gotye who held the previous record at eight weeks for "Somebody That I Used To Know."

We love the oh-so-catchy pop song, but we've got to wonder: Despite the rise of indie music and the backlash against pop stars like Jepsen or Bieber, is catchy music still king?

DIGITALSPY.COM reports:
The singer claims the longest US number one run of 2012.

Is THIS why you won't take that stupid, Call Me Maybe infographic off the front page, even though it's been there a month and a half now??

Yes sodahead, Carly Rae Jepsen is by FAR the most relevant thing in the news right now, more relevant than wars, famine, the election, and anything else you've kept on your front page for a tenth as long. Seriously if I have to read that retarded infographic title "Rings Well With the Ladies" for much longer I may just stop coming to this site.

Yes, these are the songs that you hate to love. You like them b/c they are catchy, and eventually you can't get them out of your head and you hate them....but you know the song sucks. A frustrating cycle.

So it would appear, but I find it unutterably depressing that this stupid song is so popular.

The trick is the catchy video and some musical riffs that pull the song up from the ordinary. The twist in the video with the guy turning out to be gay is a significant part of what makes people remember the video and then the song.

The song isn't catchy, it is a rare song that has interesting sounds, etc. that broke through standard over-produced music to become popular. If you don't like it that is fine, but it was more original than most of the crap out there. (Although popular music in general isn't very original...that includes all rock, pop, country, and everything else).

maybe that song is something some people have never heard before maybe its the first song like that before maybe im just around too much of that to me it sounds like every other "modern art" song that is played in modern art galleries

Yes, but those songs are more classical music. This sounds very similar to some minimalism pieces I have heard. I like hearing things derived from classical, that is where people really challenge the barriers of music IMO (i.e. Classical is what pushes music forward).

I don't know what that means. Music is music. I don't judge it by the virtue of the artist's fans.

the style was definetely trying to appeal to the hipster crowd trying not to be mainstream which in that case would of beena good thing
