Do you believe there can ever be a single definition for the word "Art" ? (and i don't mean the person..)

If so, what are your thoughts about what the definition would be?

We all know what art is.. so what connects everything we consider to be art?

(and I know there is a def in the in the dictionary.. but other than that)

It's a tough question. Art is very subjective. But if it makes you feel or think, than its art.

There are so many different types of art. So many different levels. Different people view different things as art so the definition varies from person to person.
I think its one of the hardest words to define.

i think art is anything you do or create that depicts what you're feeling or thinking about at the time. of course when you define it like that even murder could be considered art, but thats not what i meant. thats the best way i can explain my opinion of what art is, but i'm sure other peopl see it differently

I don't know about any 1 definiton, but I think of art as anything created by a human being, using any media, and sometimes creating new media to be used to create the art......

art is imitation of life. True art doesn't just show you a picture, it tells you a story about who the person in the picture was. It draws you in and makes you wonder about there lives as it displays the best and worst of human nature and all the complexities in between.

e.g. The mona lisa. Her smile is very complex. Only another human would recognise that it seems as though she is hidding something. It's a smirk as if she knows something that we don't and ever since it's creation we've wondered what the secret is.

because we all feel and think differently, art to me is the music, paintings, sculptures and such that makes me feel an emotion... the best art I've seen lately are the draws of my niece ^.^

Art can never be defined it can only be expressed. Art is different to everyone. What one views as art might not be to the next. I guess if one were to define art it would it would be An expression of ones talent for the pleasure, of the senses (sight, sound, touch, etc), of another living being.

To me art is something that is created by yourself or others. It can come in many forms and different stlyes. Its the creativity that brews in our minds.. if you can express that on paper, in a picture or anywhere else where the world can see, then i consider that art.
