Let's face it: the New Orleans Hornets have not been a very good basketball team for a long, long time. The team did show some flashes of brilliance under All-Star point guard Chris Paul, but when he saw the franchise was going in the wrong direction, he got out and got out fast. But who could blame him? According to ESPN and the official Hornets Twitter feed, the franchise may finally get some semblance of direction.
The Hornets announced that New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson has bought the team from the NBA, since the league ran its basketball operations, due to previous ownership's severe financial woes. The NBA had been trying to sell the team for quite some time and now got their wish -- with a New Orleans guy nonetheless.
However, it'll take more than a new owner to fill up seats for the Hornets, as they must win some games and get back into playoff contention and maybe -- just maybe -- become a championship-caliber team. That all, of course, takes time. According to ESPN, Tom Benson purchased the team for a reported $338 million, but it's unclear at this time if the team will actually remain in New Orleans and if the community can support two major professional teams (the Saints and the Hornets.) What do you think?

They can also put salt peter in the Gumbo sent to the hotel rooms of the opponents!
But yeah. They spend the right money in the right way, sure, why not.
What they should have done is stay in OKC when they had the chance. They were having major trouble filling seats before Katrina. Here in OKC they were pretty much sold out every home game. Unlike the Sonics, the franchise would have likely kept the Hornet name, and OKC loved having them here. I didn't but that's because I was working downtown by the venue and it made it tough to get home on game nights.
