Whoops! Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in hot water with the ladies after telling actress Emily Blunt, "Pretty girls aren't usually funny." "The Dark Knight Rises" actor Gordon-Levitt, 31, meant it as a compliment to Blunt, with whom he co-stars in the upcoming sci-fi thriller "Looper." But Josh Dickey of Variety, who tweeted from the Comic-Con panel where Gordon-Levitt made the faux pas, said Blunt "bristled" at the remark.

Looks like Gordon-Levitt has always had his share of trouble with the ladies. He tells the August issue of GQ that he never attended his high school prom. "I was a sort of serious little dude -- snobby. I thought girls my age were very frustrating," he says. "They were, like, looking in their compact mirrors and sh-t, and I thought that was evil." Do you think he's right about pretty girls not "usually" being funny? Or is it a blanket statement to end all blanket statements?

I think he means the classic vapid "pretty" girls aren't funny (the ones that run around staring into their compact mirrors like he described). However, funny is already an attractive +1 and there certainly can be physical attractiveness on top of it.

Pretty girls can be anything they want based off their looks! Even a dumb one can reach elite status based off of looks.. It's a shame but it's the truth! If a woman says something stupid that she thinks is funny, every man that heard it will laugh!

I don't think prettiness comes into it. I think that, for some reason, women are very rarely as humorous as men, but I don't think their looks make a real difference.

That is one of the stupidest things I've heard. Some of the prettiest women I know. My step-daughter is a riot and she's beautiful. I also know many others. The admited "snob" is clueless. He needs to go back under his "rock".

My daughters are gorgeous ladies. their daughters are very beautiful , too. they all have a great sense of humor. Most are blondes and they aren't air heads either. smart and funny in my family.

Celebrities are a minority among the populace, anyway. So, arguments involving them are relatively invalid, but I would say that most "pretty" girls tend to be rather vapid.

Absolutely they can be funny. In general most comedians, male or female are a bit quirky looking, and that's part of what makes them funny since most of them end up making fun of their looks as part of their act, but that isn't a rule set in stone.

I don't see Gordon-Levitt's statement as a major faux pas.He was just imprecise, like this rather imprecise poll. The first two answers are not mutually exclusive. There should have been a "Yes, but they usually aren't" option. He didn't say pretty girls CAN'T be funny. Pretty girls "usually aren't funny", but "yes" they can be. People in general (and specifically some stand up comics) aren't usually funny--pretty, ugly, fat, skinny, male, female makes no difference.

Having owned a run my own bar/nightclub from 2000 to 2008, & worked in hospitality for quite some time before then, I think that I'm in a good position to judge his commen & I totally agree that pretty girls USUALLY don't have much of a sense of humour than many women who are less aesthetically blessed than they are...I like the guy - loved "3rd Rock'!! - & respect him for speaking his mind in this b/s age of over-sensitivity & PC...& he didn't say it in a nasty fashion either!! Respect for JGL!!!
