Can Justin Timberlake Bring MySpace Back?

He brought sexy back, but can Justin Timberlake do the same thing for MySpace? The once-super popular social networking site is trying again for a comeback, with the help of Timberlake, who bought MySpace last summer from News Corp. for $35 million, mostly in stock, with a group of other investors, The Associated Press reports.

Justin Timberlake

The star appears in a new promotional video for the revamped site, which has a "much cleaner look," according to the AP, and will let users connect with their Twitter or Facebook accounts.

But while MySpace promises to "start from scratch," it will still be focused on music and entertainment. Interested? You can request an invitation (the new site isn't quite ready yet). Do you think JT can bring MySpace "back"?

Not as a Facebook competitor, but Myspace did carve out a niche as a resource for up and coming bands. It will never reach Facebook user status, but it can certainly become the place to go to share your bands music, especially if it has some level of integration with Faceboook.

I logged into my old account when I read this story. Wow, is it dead. None of my friends had been active in a long time. Most of my apps and games were gone. There was just nothing going on.

I would never say never. But, I'd say that the odds are strongly against Myspace making even a small comeback. You might as well try to bring back classmates or AOL.

wait...how many generations of social networks have we had? Because for ones that have reached the general public concious there is maybe Myspace, then Twitter and Facebook, and...thats about it.

Myspace was at the end of the 90's and the middle of the next. Facebook came and probably has at least four more years to it's generation.

So 2, and arguably, Myspace never reached the critical mass of Facebook.I get the sentiment but really, we have no idea whats going to happen in the world of social media. We could have Facebook when were 60. It could be dead. It could have evolved into something unrecognizeable. There is no way to know, we don't have the data.

Facebook could collapse do to the lack of funding. I'm more or less going to bet it changes hands. Even if it's not the death it'll just be facebook rebranded.

Why would you want to buy something that is very outdated and take something and change everything but the name? Wouldn't it be better starting from scratch and using a new name? I haven't even heard anything myspace since high school. So 5 years ago!! Realistically, facebook is also outdated. There needs to be something new...

Actually, he may just be able to do it. He has a huge following and if he uses it for music then there is a large segment of the population that might flock to it. You never know. People are fickle. Everyone left myspace and flew to facebook. Who says it can't happen again and young people will be going back.....if anyone can, he can....so yah, maybe.

MySpace should come out some serious good apps or functions for people going back to use it again. MySpace will need more than a Timberlake to get back on track.
