Can Bieber Fever Be Explained by Science?

Don't blame the Biebs for becoming so popular! It's not his fault; it's science. At least, that's what neuroscientist Dr. Daniel Levitin says. His research shows that the preteen obsession with Justin Bieber, as well as similar obsessions from Elvis to the Beatles (not that he's comparing) are caused by simple rushes of dopamine, the same chemical that's released when an addict gets his fix.

But there's some frightening news to go along with that. His research also suggests high dopamine levels experienced during the teen years are formative, meaning Bieber has actually been hardwired into their brains. Fortunately, kids do eventually grow out of these things, but perhaps this explains why Justin Timberlake is so popualr. Do you think science can explain Bieber Fever?

He's on NCIS now as the coroner. :) In fact there was an episode where someone comes to the morgue and sees him and when he walks away, the visitor tells Mark Harmon that he looks very familiar, but he can't think who he looks like. Harmons says, "Ilya Kuryarkin."

Only those of us who used to watch the old show, and the name of it escapes me now, would get it.

No, I don't believe that "Bieber Fever" can be explained by science. In fact, I hope that no money is being spent by universities, the government, scientific groups or other research entities to try to prove this theory. It is pretty scary to think that Justin Bieber creates high dopamine levels in teenagers. If I were still a young gal, I'd rather be hooked on heroin than Justin Bieber. No, there's nothing scientific about "Bieber Fever" in the least. If you ask me, only tween girls with really bad taste in music fall victim to this terrible disease.

OMG! Some of the teen heartthrobs of yesteryear certainly didn't age well. Of course, in Leif Garrett's case, all the drugs and alcohol helped speed the aging process along!

Unfortunately, yes. If you google it, there's like some people who make fun of it by posting the same question in yahoo answers. I saw a link of one that told Queen to stop copying Beiber.... *sigh* 'Tis why I can't stand most people. -_-

I dont need science, I always knew the reason why they acted like that is because they liked him =.=

I like Justin Bieber but im not acting crazy or insane. I dont get the point of studies like that, shouldnt they be finding a cure for cancer or something?

I think you will find that idiots like Bieber are as much of a problem for our world right now as cancer, they distract people from reaching there potential.

Im not distracted by JB. The people who are so obsessed that it stops them from reaching their potential has a problem. A lot of things people become obsessed with, computers, internet, food, the doesnt mean that everything should be cut out. JB is a cool guy, I dont see whats the point of being obessed (whether you love him or hate him) is going to be a problem for everybody.

No, peoples attitudes to these things need to change, it is an individual flaw, but the people at the top enable it. I know because I work alongside and know many of them personally (I am an INTJ Freemason who runs nightclubs, I am about to start my own career in TV, Film and music production too).

For many youn girls, JB fascination is simply not an option.

"No, peoples attitudes to these things need to change"
Its not going to change. In a matter of fact, JB is getting so much attention that he is going to stay around for a long time. I can see it in the first page of the newspaper "JUSTIN BIEBER GETS MARRIED!" and a picture of him about 10 years older and his beautiful bride.

It is going to change, and I see "Justin Bieber engaged" they will never make it as far as the wedding :(

If Justin Bieber had a message, he could stick around, but so far he is yet to make any kind of point about anything. Just pop lyrics, like Gaga (although she got more praise than Jesus for saying "Born this way")
