Bush rejected Harry Potter author JK Rowling for congressional honor because books 'condone witchcraft': Do you agree?

Twilight HQ October 13, 2009 21:55:51

George W. Bush was apparently a devout Harry Potter hater. The former president refused to honor J.K. Rowling, author of the Potter series, with the Presidential Medal of Freedom... and for quite the logical reason.

"People in the White House…actually object[ed] to giving the author J.K. Rowling a presidential medal because the Harry Potter books encouraged witchcraft," says former Bush speechwriter Matt Latimer.

No! That's a dumb reason to reject Rowling

That is the most ignorant reason. J.K. Rowling created a magical world, she got kids and teens to read again. I'd love to see where he did that.
    Oh, wait... he didn't.

Rowling is a fantastic writer, one of my personal favorites and possibly one of the best there ever will be. Grated, she's no Tolken, (Author of the Lord of the Rings series, for those who don't know.) but she is clearly an excellent writer.

The "witchcraft" in Harry Potter is not the traditional definition of witchcraft. The wizards and witches of the Harry Potter novels are *born* magic; they don't call on higher, evil powers to cast spells. They celebrate Christmas, attend church, and put Bible verses on their grave stones. Wooooo....really evil, huh?

    J. K Rowling is one of my favorite authors. I have many memories of laying on my bed, book propped in front of me for hours at a time. I still have every single one of the Harry Potter series on my bloated book shelf, falling to pieces from the million times I've read them. Does Rowling promote wizardry? No. Ever heard of fiction? As in, not real? As in, doesn't exist? Saying that the Harry Potter series promotes witchcraft is like saying that
Scooby-Doo promotes eating too much and dressing up as monsters to exact revenge on people who you don't like.

Bush partied too much and burned up too many brain cells in College and prior years to make any kind of judgment call on a writer with a great imagination.

You can also look at the fact that Bush requires a writer, which dictates what he can say so he does not sound unintelligent, because he does not have the ability to write or speak with his own character and personality and make intelligent decisions without talented people he hired who attempt to make him look good.

JK Rowling deserves the honor! Rowling’s talents alone captured the majority of the American and Abroad population with the Harry Potter Books. She literally encompassed excitement, life experiences and lessons that adolescents directly relate to and can learn from while reading these captivating books.

Can Bush or any other publisher come close to these facts? NO!

Young kids to Adults of all ages love these books. So let's see if Obama can once again turn Bush's bad choices and into a good end result! After all, are we not promoting literacy in the USA; to encourage kids and adults to learn to read and work on their creative side of the brain to become well rounded individuals? Hmmm, I do believe that's we the ads state!

Yet another sign that Bush might be borderline retarded. Someone should take him to a psychiatrist to get diagnosed.
