Burger Named After Chris Brown and Rihanna Incident: Clever or Cruel?

Rihanna seems to be moving on from the 2009 incident that drove then-boyfriend Chris Brown into domestic violence classes, but the public has been slow to forget. Yet Hops & Chops, a Georgia restaurant, is trying to cash in on the incident by naming its latest creation after them: The Carribean Black and Bleu, a sandwich with marinated ribeye, bleu cheese, tomato, Lamborghini onion, lettuce, and Carribean spices.

Sounds delicious, but the restaurant has received a good deal of negative feedback on its Facebook page. The Daily Caller pulled up this comment from an upset observer: "I keep trying to find the right words to respond to this inexcusable, irresponsible, and despicable incident and I can’t seem to find the right words other than we will NEVER eat there." And another:"Yikes ... that's in super poor taste. I love Chops and Hops, but this might be enough to keep me away for a bit. Wow ... just wow." Do you think the restaurant went overboard by naming a burger after the Rihanna and Chris Brown domestic violence incident?

You know I have much love for you Mel and I believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion but people today are too sensitive about jokes. It's meaningless drivel and if people would put 1/3 of their passion about this burger joint towards helping others who need it and those who are still fighting for equal rights in 2012 then the world will be a better place but instead we are angry over a burger joint who is mocking millionaires... I guess am irate that these same people remain nameless when it matters.

In the news article it says "On Hops & Chops’ Facebook page, executive chef and owner Richard Miley made clear who inspired the sandwich. He wrote, “Chris Brown won’t beat you up for eating this unless your name starts with a[n] R and ends with A.”

HAH.. That's funny right there. I would give him and Chris Brown a big high five but Chris Brown looks like he might smack my hand too hard for my tatse.

Some people act like he beat, raped and murdered her and then like, shot up a school while listening to yacketty sax or something. Now I'm not condoning his behavior, but people have done a LOT worse. Just because they're famous it's still such a huge deal?

But that aside, I think it's fairly clever, and even laughed. I'm sure if say your rival sports team's captain or quarterback or whatnot got beat up and they made a burger about it you'd love it.

You're surprised? Anything a celebrity does of this maginitude is sure to be around no less than 5 more years after it happened.

Domestic violence isn't just physical. It's insidious and the victims, male or female, have their confidence and self esteem so undermined that they feel unable to take responsibility for their own lives. THAT is why they stay in abusive relationships.

that's not what i meant. I meant that by naming this burger after an abusive relationship and picking fun at it is awful, it's like they think it's funny that a man gave his girlfriend a black eye & busted lip. It might feed (no pun intended) into the idea that domestic violence isn't a big deal, for people who already think that way.

This restaurant should be boycotted and driven out of business!

The only appropriate way to honor Chris Brown is to chop him up into chopped meat, dip it in cow manure and then flush it down the toilet!

Not necessarily! You can chop up Chris Brown and not have meat. The question referred to a hamburger. If I had said what I wanted to, I might have been banned!
