Britney Spears Is Making 15 Times More Than Demi Lovato on 'X Factor': Fair or Foul?

We're not surprised Demi Lovato's "X Factor" contract is less than Britney Spears -- Lovato doesn't quite have the star power or the experience Spears does -- but $1 million sounds a little bit low. Spears was initially offered a $10 million contract, but rejected it because she wanted something closer to $20 million. They split the difference and settled on $15 million. That's 15 times what Lovato will receive for doing the same exact job.

Even Spears' contract is low compared to some other talent show judges. Jennifer Lopez, for instance, got $20 million for her second season of "American Idol." Of course, in this industry it's all about ratings. Our polls have shown that Spears will indeed be the more valuable judge, but not 15 times more valuable. But if producers are nervous about signing her, and she's desperate enough to sign for $1 million, that's where it's gonna land. But is it fair that Britney Spears is making so much more than the younger Demi Lovato?

Poor Demi, why doesn't she go cry with Lady Gaga and Katy Perry? They can dry their tears with hundred dollar bills. Yes, life is so very hard for you three.

Maybe she needs more drugs she is definitely high maintence. A shrink is very expensive also who knows what Simon Cowell saw or knew about the people he hired. He is a very smart business man knows what will pay off for him. I would not want Britney working for me in any job.

I just think that it's obscene when a talentless bimbo like her can get (I was going to say earn but changed my mind!) that amount of money when nurses, teachers, social workers, etc get a pittance.

Britney Spears, while she's had her ups and downs, is one of the most talented performers to ever grace the stage. Highly under-rated following her teen cult breakthrough and her years as a teen idol, the amazing thing about her is that she can not only sing and dance, she wrote songs, she designed and choreographed much of her own show, she had a lot of direct input in the studio, and was generally involved on all levels. And she's not a bad actress to boot. Sadly, her recent releases have focused on the dance genre and fail by far to showcase her beautiful voice and range the way her earlier material did. Hopefully she'll one day return to a style more akin to the varied, punchier tunes she became famous with, but even if she never does the fact remains that Britney Spears could, if she so desired, achieve a level of popularity and iconic success that would very likely be akin to that of Elvis Presley. Her many talents and her natural instincts are what set her apart from all the typical pop queens such as Christina Aguilera and Miley Cyrus. I feel I know what I'm talking about because I come from a long line of musicians and singers, including a cousin who choreographed two of Michael Jacksons' most popular videos.

As for the "X Factor" contracts and pay scales, I've known who Britney Spears was from the time she got her first hit song. I have no idea who Demi Lovato is. I don't mean that as an insult, merely to make my point. Frankly, I would say Britney's worth a lot more than $15 million.

Demi who? I admit I'm not up on the latest who's who in entertainment, but I know the big names (or hope I do). Britney.. big name. When I read the headling for this topic I honestly thought they were talking about Demi Moore and that shocked me to think she'd be a judge on the X Factor. :) So.. is it fair that Britney get's paid more than Demi who? Of course it is. The producers agreed that she has the value to appeal to mass audienxes and that is that.

What's foul is that Britney Spears is getting paid to "judge" anyone else's musical talent since she has none of her own. But if Simon Cowell can be a judge for anything other than a rudeness contest then I suppose it's whatever will bring in ratings.

Both are paid way too well. This society tends to pay its gladiators, minstrels, and jesters way more then those who are trying to solve our problems and lead us out of trouble.

Based on record sales, I'm sure Britney has sold more, making her more valuable in someone's eyes. She certainly has more name recognition in a larger gemogrphic, so it is understandable that she makes more.

If they're doing the same job, they should get the same amount.. If one is more experienced in the particular job, they should make a bit more but NOT 15 or even 7 times the amount than the other. That is ridiculous.

It has to do with more issues than that, I'm sure they are counting on draw. Britney, higher name recognition across a larger age group should result in higher numbers of viewers. This is a fact that their agents are well aware of and I'm sure it factored into the negotiations.

Britneys days ended years ago. Considering her career has spanned more years than Demi's yet and both have the same number of albums and just about the same amount of tv experiance. Its not fair at all, yea both have had their pit falls but times have changed and its not about bubble gum pop any more.

I love Demi but it's only fair she's the newest to the whole Hollywood business. I'm sure he next contract (if asked back for the next season) will be more but there's no reason to compare pay checks. They both got a pretty cool gig sitting in a chair judging people's talent!

She's been working a lot longer than Demi, for starters. Seniority kind of does matter when it comes to this business. Plus, look at it the other way around. How in the world would it be fair for her to be making /more/ than Spears?

face it britney is getting older and Demi is more famous. PLUS Demi will have the attention of probably more than half the viewers because She has alot more new fans than britney and they are gunna wanna see demi on the show. BUT if they are basing it on popularity then i think it should be equal. DEMI FTW<3

    ddemi demi ftw
