Brett Favre to report to Packers training camp 08/04/08.

Much has been made of the Brett Favre situation, but the league made his return official on Sunday when they granted him his reinstatement into the NFL. This means Favre will likely show up to the Packer's training camp today, and more than just an awkward moment is likely to ensue.
The Packers organization has for three years been grooming Aaron Rodgers to take over as the starting QB after Favre's departure, and has continually stated that Rodgers will not be replaced by Favre any time soon. Some have suggested that Favre should be traded, but the Pack is weary to watch Favre suit up for any other team, especially a division rival like the Minesota Vikings who have expressed interest in picking up Favre. A trade involving Favre is highly unlikely.
That leaves the option of having a competition for the starting QB spot, and while it seems to be the most democratic solution, I believe its still unfair to Rodgers. The whole Favre dilema has been a huge distraction for a guy that is trying to become the new captain of the team, and to make him fight for a role that was promised to him because the former QB, legend or not, could not commit to retirement is sad.
I personally think that the Packers should stay commited to their past statements and keep Rodgers as the starter. They could keep Favre for a few days or weeks of camp and then trade him for good value to another team that is willing to gamble on an aging legend.

Usually I just respond to politics, but I'm married to a true packer fan, so this caught my eye. Lived in WI for a while and you've never seen a group of people take their team more serious than the people of WI. I've seen tough, grown men and women cry when the Packer lose and act like foolish children when they win. They love the Packers and they love Brett Farve. Those pepole would rather see the management run out of town, before they see Brett treated like a second string quarter back. And they are the only team owned by the people. So I'm sure the big wigs are a bit nervious about how to handle Brett's return and how to keep their own jobs in the process.
