I don't see anything empowering about posing nude for a guy's masturbation magazine.
What's next? National Self-Help and Most Improved awards for women who find jobs at Elegant Angel Entertainment, doing porn scenes with 3 men and handcuffs?

While most people probably picture the classic Playboy Bunny as a buxom blonde beauty, Sherlyn Chopra is about to shatter that image. The Bollywood actress will grace the cover of the November issue of the girlie magazine and pose nude for an inside spread. But many people in her native India are outraged by her revealing debut.

In a report for the Daily Mail, commentator Gayatri Sankar spoke to why he feels Chopra’s decision is inappropriate given the current state of women’s affairs in India. He remarked, “At a time when innocent women across the nation from Gujarat to Guwahati have been subjected to sexual abuse and humiliation, one wonders if Sherlyn Chopra’s pictures wound a woman’s integrity.” But an argument could be made that her choice is empowering. After all, the 28-year-old, who’s had only minor roles in Bollywood films, landed the Playboy shoot all on her own. She wrote a letter to the magazine’s staff and proposed the idea herself.

Of course, people in India won’t be able to swing by their local newsstand and pick up a copy. The mag is banned there, but it is available online. One person who isn’t up in arms about Chopra’s decision is her mother — but that’s just because the actress hasn’t let her mom know about the Playboy issue yet. According to a BBC Hindi interview, Chopra plans to visit and break the news face-to-face. What do you think: Is Chorpha’s decision lacking integrity?

Embarrassing

There's a lot of body shame in our culture and even more so in India. I imagine it must feel very empowering for her to overcome her cultural biases and show she's not buying into the shame and is proud of how she looks without needing to cover it up with clothes.
As in Hindu India, where women are property. And killed for far less.

I can see how the commentator could find this wounding to women's affairs. In a country where women are treated like second, maybe even third class citizens, she COULD be using this platform that she has created for herself to EMPOWER the women of her country.
And that's my rant for the day. Go ahead, attack me and call me a Feminazi. I'm ready for you ;).
She is OWNING herself and NOT allowing her Indian upbringing (women are property in India) to infringe on her self empowerment. Don't blame Hugh for creating wealthy goddesses.
I don't know if she's mixed ethnicity but either way I'm much more concerned about her skin tone in the photo. It's... white, which is not BAD of course for someone of colour to have if that is her regular skin tone, but for a move that's trying to create more acceptance of people who aren't white it looks rather two-faced.
So, this is empowering, because it shows SHE is standing for herself, doing what SHE decides and not what a man decided for her. THIS is a huge deal, her being from India (very conservative) and her showing herself in that way.
Bravo to her.

Questions like this with only 2 options and no middle ground are embarrassing.
