Thursday would have been Whitney Houston's 49th birthday, and her adoring daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown paid tribute by getting a tattoo on her wrist of her mom's initials surrounded by doves. Close family friend Nick Gordon also got the same ink in Whitney's memory.

Earlier on Wednesday, Brown tweeted: "On the way with MYbooboo @nickgordon :)heading2 #Inksomnia for our TATTSSS !this is for you mommy (: we love you, happybirthday Ourlady XXo." Brown later posted an Instagram picture of the tattoos.

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Paris Jackson is hoping to follow in Bobbi Kristina's footsteps, tweeting on Tuesday: "I kinda want to get August XXIX tatted on my back" (which is her father, Michael Jackson's birthday). She added, "lol y'all are trippin trying to tell me not to get the tat, when u guys don't even know what it means … it's my dads bday get over it lmao." What do you think? Are tribute tattoos a nice way to remember loved ones?

I would prefer not to be remembered in the form of a tattoo, nor a shirt, neither a social media page. My mind can remember those who were close to me enough that I do not need a permanent image on my body.

Ummm....NO!!! I can prove my love to someone without a tattoo A tatto is nothing but a superficial marking that has no meaningl what matters is what your heart feels not the appearance of a tattoo!!! STUPID!!!

If you need a tattoo to remember someone then that is clear proof that you really don't care that much for that person as much as you want others to believe that you did. A tattoo is NOT going to help you remember that person any better INSTEAD it is used to "show to others" how much you want them to think you care. Tattoos are ALL about show.

It's their parent. I don't think not one person in their lives can tell them they can't get a beautiful tattoo remembering their parent. My boyfriend has his moms portrait on his arm and it's absolutely stunning. Really meaningful.

People are not knocking them for their preferences of tats in remembering their loved ones. Read that last portion of the question again and it will make sense why some are responding the way they are.

Tats have a way of looking like green blobs after having them for years. A blob really isn't a good tribute.

It's the thought of it though. It may be a green blob to others but to the person it signifies something to them.

EVERYONE has tattoos. Conformers get tattoos and piercings to fit in. They would have been better off just holding their blanket like Linus, now everyone has dumbass looking tattoos.

Sad part is this tat looks better than yours.
tattoos piercings fit holding blanket linus dumbass tattoos sad tat

Whatever floats your boat. I have no tats and don't want any. Ever see the sun bleached wrinkled ones on people as they age. Well we all get old and that's what they look forward to.

Everyone has different ways of remembering loved ones.. and for some it's tattoos. I think it's a great way to honor and remember loved ones who have passed.

Got one on my back for my fallen brother, Cpl Bernardo Vasquez. I plan on adding to it to also pay tribute to two others, SSgt Joe Stevens and Cpl Mark Kidd.

I'm not much of a tatto person. Having them in your thoughts is the best way to remember a loved one.

I agree--may they forever remain in their hearts. I know my mom is in my heart. Her birthday is the 18th.

I'm getting a red hummingbird with my sister's name imprinted beneath it. She'd always said that if she ever got a tattoo, it would be a red hummingbird...so that will be my fourth (tasteful) and probably last tattoo. I think it's a beautiful way to remember a loved one.

I think a lot of tattoo ideas people have are stupid, but I have never thought badly about a tattoo that is in memory of someone. I always see tasteful ones though.

It's a little painful while it's being done, but the pain stops when it's over...and the results are beautiful. If you'd ever gotten a tattoo, you'd understand why we do it.

Tattoos are a rather sad expression of loss. There are plenty of other ways to express it rather than mark up your body.
