Thursday would have been Whitney Houston's 49th birthday, and her adoring daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown paid tribute by getting a tattoo on her wrist of her mom's initials surrounded by doves. Close family friend Nick Gordon also got the same ink in Whitney's memory.

Earlier on Wednesday, Brown tweeted: "On the way with MYbooboo @nickgordon :)heading2 #Inksomnia for our TATTSSS !this is for you mommy (: we love you, happybirthday Ourlady XXo." Brown later posted an Instagram picture of the tattoos.

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Paris Jackson is hoping to follow in Bobbi Kristina's footsteps, tweeting on Tuesday: "I kinda want to get August XXIX tatted on my back" (which is her father, Michael Jackson's birthday). She added, "lol y'all are trippin trying to tell me not to get the tat, when u guys don't even know what it means … it's my dads bday get over it lmao." What do you think? Are tribute tattoos a nice way to remember loved ones?

I would prefer not to be remembered in the form of a tattoo, nor a shirt, neither a social media page. My mind can remember those who were close to me enough that I do not need a permanent image on my body.

It is against the law's of God to cut or mark yourself in honor of someone that has passed. Nothing wrong with getting a rose tat, or some other form of art, but do not mark your body for the dead.

jcadla, you don't remember that Bible verse?
I think it was Paul's letter to the Morons 13:1-3. Where he said tats are OK unless they honor the dead. Then you'll burn in hell for them.
Sheesh! Did you miss that Sunday school class? ;)

Tattoos are the best way to be trendy and remember your loved ones. However, if you're just going for remembering a loved one, then your memory and thoughts are pretty much a sufficient way of remembering things like that.

I mean sufficient. Are you insinuating that you would forget a loved one if you didn't have their name or face tattooed on your body?

Sure, if it's your thing. I have a small Italian flag tat with my father's date of death on my hip. I was always on his hip when I was little, so now he's on mine.

Well there was this lady who carried her dead husbands ashes in its box everywhere and she'd talk to it like he was still there then it escalated to her actually licking the ashes off of her fingers whenever she would handle the ashes...

oh yeah, some people do 'snap' after losing a loved one, especially if it's sudden and traumatic. Everybody's mental state is soooo different, as it is.

Death is not devastating; it is to be expected as a part of life, perhaps much later it happens than sooner, but it is inevitable.
If tattoos are fitting for some to cope with loss then fine; but let's remember it's just a state of mind, because they are not needed to remind us of death.

.....so it's perfectly normal to find your 40 something year old mother, dead, with her head under water in the bath tub ? You need to put an avatar up....I want to see if you look as stupid as you sound.

Actually I knew Whitney Houston when she was young and first starting out in her career. If you disagree with what I said; simply say so because you getting upset and name calling does not change my sentiments about death dying and tattoos' so back off raging okay and talk like a mature intelligent commentor. I love you still so calm down okay.
    Have a wonderful evening.
    P.S.

My family's in the entertainment business also and you know them if I name them. "Be Blessed"

Actually I am quite good looking but not conceited or stuck on myself. I don't want you to change your tone in how you talk to me because I have a pretty face, that's why in cognito"
    Have a good one okay.
    Hey mine is 8/16th' Thursday
    When is yours?
    We have a lot in common(leo ;)

Just because something is "bound to happen" doesn't make it any less traumatic. It's like if I ram into the back of your new car, and tell you not to be upset , because I have insurance. And everybody's mental state is different. That's all I'm saying. This is not a one size fits all situation.

I never said a tattoo was not good for Whitney's daughter or anyone else, to each its own" never implied one size fits all. Was expressing my sentiments in general and more personable. If you or anyone else agree with me then, okay. If you or anyone else disagree with me, then still okay; but my sentiments still stand on the subject of tattoos on the body to pay homage to the dead. Some people are into tattoos and some are not ...I am not and I specified why not" move on from this and stop arguing with me about tattoos dude" Hey, I love the tattoos on other people; but not on me. About the car accident you used as an example' dude, as long as we both were ok after the accident; I wouldn't get out yelling at anyone because they hit my car with their car, that's material stuff no problem dude. You calling me names because I don't do tats suk dude"
I'm a leo also dude and all the cat people I know are classy folks dude. Bye" :(

Well they're obviously meaningful to the person who is getting the tribute tat, but not really to anyone else. And photo tribute tats, IMO are almost always hideous. I've only seen a few that ever looked worth a crap.

Size of the tribute matters a little to me. You don't need one that takes up your whole back a small to median one on the wrist , upper arm shoulder is ok in my book.

A tattoo is good if it actually has significance.
