Thursday would have been Whitney Houston's 49th birthday, and her adoring daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown paid tribute by getting a tattoo on her wrist of her mom's initials surrounded by doves. Close family friend Nick Gordon also got the same ink in Whitney's memory.

Earlier on Wednesday, Brown tweeted: "On the way with MYbooboo @nickgordon :)heading2 #Inksomnia for our TATTSSS !this is for you mommy (: we love you, happybirthday Ourlady XXo." Brown later posted an Instagram picture of the tattoos.

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Paris Jackson is hoping to follow in Bobbi Kristina's footsteps, tweeting on Tuesday: "I kinda want to get August XXIX tatted on my back" (which is her father, Michael Jackson's birthday). She added, "lol y'all are trippin trying to tell me not to get the tat, when u guys don't even know what it means … it's my dads bday get over it lmao." What do you think? Are tribute tattoos a nice way to remember loved ones?

I would prefer not to be remembered in the form of a tattoo, nor a shirt, neither a social media page. My mind can remember those who were close to me enough that I do not need a permanent image on my body.

The dearly departed live-on in our hearts which never fades, ink on skin fades, silly and juvenile.

I don't have anything against them. If you truly want something that lasts, well, tattoos will. And honestly, it looks nice :)

Yes, as long as they're respectfully done and not tacky. I got an entwined purple rose and yellow rose tattoo on my left ankle. The purple rose is because purple is my favorite color. The yellow rose is because my dad used to call me his "yellow rose of Texas" (where I was born). Tribute tattoo, tastefully done. :)

In a case like this, honoring her mother's memory, I think so. My son had a tattoo of his son's face placed on his side. It is an excellent likeness. I am not into tattoos but, what the hey, different strokes, and I guess if a person wants to live with them, go for it. It's a damn site better than a nail in your tongue...and other tender places.

I read a bunch of these...'stupid'...ignorant'.... on, folks, lighten up...you are in essence, stating what is right for you. How many of you have studs and piercings in various places? A nail holding your tongue (or whatever) together??? Some of you would have to remove hardware to have sex...

I would hope that any tattoo someone gets is meaningful because they'll have it for life. I've seen many with nice tribute artwork on them.

If you loved them do you need to mark up your body to be reminded that you did love them? Can't your brain still function?

I voted yes to this question because it is self explanatory.., the tats are meaningful to those seeking to get them for the purpose they are getting them.. However.., I doubt they are meaningful to others..

I am sure that others that holds a special place in their heart for MJ have their own way of memorializing him.. Bottom line.., this question makes no sense...JOMO

Disagree' it don't help the healing; it holds the living person back from moving on forward, because it is a constant "24-hrs. a day" reminder of the dead. We all will leave one day and also meet back up with all our loved ones; but in the meantime we must let the dead 'rest in peace' it is not our place to hold them here. You want to do something nice for the dead; on the aniversary of their departure from this plane (earth), set some helium filled balloons with tiny personal notes attached to them about your achievements in your life and your goals, then set the balloons free in celebration of them in remembrance. 'No tattoo'

For some people I guess, but I've never wanted one. I'm not that sentimental. Actually, I'd rather not be constantly reminded. It's easier to function that way.

I cannot imagine the pain of losing my mother, but honestly, if getting a tattoo made me feel closer to her or be happier, then why shouldn't I do it? I wouldn't get a tattoo with my mother's name on it because she hates tattoos, so it wouldn't be a good representation of her, but if this girl believes that that is the way to go, then I fail to see the problem.

I agree with top answer, I don't need to be reminded of them, if I was close enough to them, I would remember.

The scare of one's departure is something most can live an entire live with. A tattoo fades nearly as fast as a photo that faces the sun and the fine lines and color widen and blur as the body ties to fight it and absorb the ink.

Yes a beautiful face skillfully carved into an arm, chest, back or buttocks will look somewhat bearded in time. Many will have to have the artwork explained to an uninterested audience. What a waste!

I like to remember people with my memories. If I have a little trinket that reminds me of something we did together then I display it somewhere in my room.

But whatever works for her you know. I can't say what she did was wrong because it's her choice. Although I wouldn't have done both wrists if I was her.

The tattoo bk and her friend got were beautiful gestures to honor a beautiful person, who has passed rather recently I might add, Again like so many things in hollywood what these ppl decide to or no to do in their personal lives really isn't anyone else's business, so all the haters need to butt the hell out and get a life and let these ppl live life their way!

Maybe you should read the question again yourself, this stupid discussion started out about bk and her friend ans od u wwant a general answr here it goes there r too many nosy ass ppl in this world and I can not stand it. Ppl need to get a life and mind their own business and leave ppl be. This shouldn't even be a queston for anyone to address because ppl will do what they gon do so live with it,

My husband had 'Big Bro' and the birthday & death-day of his older brother tattooed on his arm. Along with a large cross and a Harley David emblem. He did it several years after his brother died. He said having It done comforted him somehow...as if he carried his brother WITH him now. His bro died of complications from MS when he was only 48. They always used to love to ride together on their Harleys.

I think people should be able to remember there loved ones quite well without resorting to tattooing it so that they "never forget"...You would forget your loved one?

That's my reasoning, but I'm not against anyone doing it.

    Barbra Streisand's. "Memories"
Memories, lights the corners of my mind, misty watercolored memories, of the way we were.

Scattered pictures, of the smiles we left behind, smiles we gave to one another, for the way we were.

You don't need a tattoo to remember anyone; you remember them anyway automatically if they were someone you loved or merely cared about, such as a friend.
