Bobbi Kristina Brown to Change Her Name, Sever Ties With Her Father: Good Decision?

In an effort to sever ties with her father Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown is making plans to change her name.

According to Page Six, Bobbi Kristina first tried to change her names six years ago when her parents were separated, but reportedly Whitney wouldn’t let her. Now that her mom is gone, TMZ reports, “the 19-year-old feels untethered” and free to pursue the name change. Bobbi Kristina plans to lose both the ‘Bobbi’ and the ‘Brown,’ and will adopt the name Kristina Houston. It’s unclear when the change will be made official.

Bobby Brown’s relationship with the late Whitney Houston was certainly rocky and his decision to leave Houston’s funeral early due to a dispute over seating arrangements did little to clear is name in the press or reconcile him with his daughter Bobbi Kristina. Houston’s feelings about her ex-husband were made especially clear when it was revealed that her will (written while the couple was still married) left nothing to him, giving every cent to her daughter.

So SodaHeads, what do you think about Bobbi Kristina Brown’s decision to change her name to Kristina Houston and sever ties with her father? Is she making the right decision?

This is obviously something she feels very strongly about, and frankly, I don't blame her one iota. If this is six years in the making and still going strong, of course it is right for her.

Hey pinkcup..how's things?!! I HAD TO send both you & zcberry a quick (at least, by my verbose standards!) post to ask you to have a look sometime at S.Lewis' most recent rant at me on this thread, someone I neither know nor desire to know, & I had NEVER even sent the nutter a post when she started abusing me for my (hopefully) rational opinions on the topic, which you, zcberry & I agreed upon..this one's nuttier than a fruitcake & I'm glad I've now nipped it in the bud & blocked her b/s...just thought you'd find her latest rant quite amusing, even by her rather insane standards!! Cheers & take care...Matt.

it's funny that you bring up youtube because i left there for the same reasons as yourself and i even laid off sodahead for awhile because the SAME THING was happening here! anyways, i've seen people like S. Lewis time and time again and it's usually when a celebrity dies and everybody needs someone to point the finger at to make sense of their death or blame for why the fell off the wagon. i've seen it with michael jackson, anna nicole smith, whitney houston ect

If she feels like it's the right thing to do then do it. It wont change who he is, but she can move forward and that really what she wants to do...

How sad is this?... A parent who will not be a good parent and a child who is acting like a willful child...

Family is family... you can not change the blood even though you may want to change the Birth Certificate...

Both father and child need to do a lot of growing up...

As long as it wasn't a spur of the moment decision and It seems like it wasn't. If that's her decision then so be it. She must have had her reasons. It's obvious that Bobby Brown wasn't much of a father figure or a postive role model in her life.

Can anyone blame her for such a choice? I sure can't. I would imagine this allows her to be connected to the parent who.showed her real love.

Just weeks before her death, Whitney and Bobbi had dinner with Bobby Brown. If Whitney wanted Bobby out of Bobbi's life, I doubt she would have taken her to meet with her father.

True that Bobby Brown is a louse, but he IS the kids father and that's a relationship that I think should be left open.

If she feels the need to change her name, I'm okay with it. She has the legal right to change her name.

But I hope she understands that changing the name won't change the fact, and won't change anyone's memories.

She should do whatever she wants to do to make herself feel better. It's her life and if doing this makes her feel better about herself then I say, "Go ahead Ms. Houston!".

She may be hurt, but Bobby is still her dad no matter what. She'll be adding hatred and bitterness if she does this. This is not a wise move.

At least not at this time. She's young, her emotions are high right now. We 'don't know what type of influence she's receiving from Whitney's family. I think maybe wait and see how she feels in a year or so, then if she feels the same, then have it legally changed. For now, if she's wanting to go by just Kristina, that's fine, lots of kids go by their middle names, but she needs to give herself some time to heal, time to do some soul searching before she makes such a decision.

Probably in the long run it's better to do this...but she may desire a reunification with her father on down the road, and choices made during times of high emotions, like this action, could make that a difficult reunion to accomplish.

One thing I feel I have to say...At the service they had a choir praising the lord and singing and all that good stuff and I was thinking okay how can you do all that and treat Bobby Brown that way. I mean it was his wife that died and it seemed like he wasnt allowed to be there for his own daughter by these suppose to be spiritual people. The manner he was treated seemed hipocritical. I'm sure he loved his ex wife and was hurt greatly by her passing and anyone who feels they have the right to take away a mans right to mourn the loss of his wife of many years and be there for his dauther is wrong.

I think Kristina Houston would be great. I wouldn't want to be associated with her father either. I think she'll do fine on her own. From what I hear she has a great voice like her mother had.

It's her choice, she knows the history between her mother and father, and children have a much stronger bond with their mother. A father can be replaced, but never a mother. So if this is her choice, so be it.

Well I guess the way you are looking at the situation, you're right, anybody can be replaced. But what point I'm trying to make in a very soft way is...A child is more bonded to their mother than they are their fathers, and a child will protect and stand by their mother almost in a no matter what situation. Sure a child loves their father, but if that father is hurting the mother or have hurt the mother the child can turn on him quicker than they would turn on their mother. Now of course there are always exceptions to the rule. What Whitney's daughter probably seen growing up brought her to this conclusion. does this make sense?
