Perhaps prompted by reports of a popular
marijuana strain named after their daughter, Beyonce and Jay-Z have filed to patent the name of their first child,
Blue Ivy. According to The Washington Post, they not only want to protect the name from being used to someone else's profit, but also to secure it for entrepreneurial use, should they decide to use it "for a future line of baby carriages, baby cosmetics, [and] diaper bags."
A few people have already tried to patent the name -- last month, a fashion designer filed for "Blue Ivy Carter NYC" and a fragrance line filed for "Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV" -- but both requests were denied because the name clearly belong to "a very famous infant." However, a Wisconsin boutique filed for "Blue Ivy" more than a year ago, and they will be keeping their trademark as it received approval before the child's name was even announced -- unless, as The Washington Post notes, they feel like selling it. Do you think Beyonce and Jay-Z's plan to trademark Blue Ivy's name is smart -- or downright silly?
I guess I should have trademarked my kid's name too. Nah, maybe not. She might have turned out like that douche bag Lindsey Lohan.
a new strain of marijuana called “OG Blue Ivy has been making the rounds.
seems they think their kid(?) is worth more as a trademark? some parents ehh?
