Beyoncé and Jay Z Drop $200,000 on Blue Ivy’s Birthday: Did They Go Overboard?

Apparently, Beyoncé and Jay Z have never personally felt like they were on the edge of a fiscal cliff. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have shelled out as much money as they recently did for their one-year-old daughter’s birthday party. Jay and B reportedly spent more than $200,000 on Blue Ivy Carter’s big day.

It’s hard to imagine how they could rack up such an enormous bill for a gathering of family and friends. But apparently, all it took was a few big ticket items. There was the $95,000 that they paid to trick out the room with pink and white roses to make the princess-themed bash look just right. The cake alone was worth a cool $2,000. Then there was the diamond-encrusted Barbie doll, which cost a staggering $80,000.

And most suburban moms thought $100 for an American Girl was extravagant. Of course Blue Ivy’s buddies didn’t go home empty handed. Gift bags for the little attendees included jewelry, princess costumes, toys and, of course, gold engraved pens and totaled $30,000.

Not that Blue Ivy will remember her special day, but it certainly sets the bar high for what’s to come. One can only imagine what her sweet 16 and wedding will be like. What do you think? Did Beyoncé and Jay Z go overboard on Blue Ivy’s birthday?

Just cause you have it doesnt mean you have to spend it. What kills me is that while most of the country is strugling with bills during this reccession these clowns make the news with extravigant spending on a 1yr old bday party.

It's their money & I'm sure the ppl they did business with were happy :) So yeah, ppl are starving all over the place. Here's some who aren't. At least, they're spending as opposed to hoarding their $$$ ...

im pretty sure $50 would have covered everything including the gifts at such a young age it was completely a waste of money and rediculous its not like shes going to have personal memories and the way i see it the celeb parents are just pushing the im the best parent envelope as they tend to think very highly of themselves in the long run anyway but all it really does is make them look stupid for wasting 200,000 dollar on a child turning one year old when there are children out there with nothing but rags seems like they are a trying to prove a point that never existed

where the hell do you live? in a third world country. because i live in a third world country and a moderate birthday does not cost me $50.00 dollars unless I was serving Habichelas con salchicha and downing it with water. And also including the gift, woman you are freaking cheap. when some one throws a party of that magnitude is for their friends as you will soon see both Beyonce and JZ after 6 years will just be holding down quiet PJ Parties and Spas, cheap and small, so let them enjoy what makes them happy. I sure miss the big parties I did for my children when they were young and I did everything from scratch. loved it.

in a way, yes. i love beyonce and jay z, and if they have the money, then why not? but then again, it's only her first birthday, and thousands of people in america are struggling with money as it is. so yeah, i think they did go overboard, but im sure if some of us had the money, we'd do the same for our kids too, right? only for big birthdays though, like eighteen, and twenty one :)

In my eyes they did but I obviously live in a different financial category than they do. It's their money so they have the right to spend it anyway they want to. What I don't understand is how is it possible to be able to make that much money or how is it possible to be that valuable. No way does anyone deserve to be paid as much as these musicians and celebrities nowadays. Athletes also get paid way too much money. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Even if I had as much money as they do, I would not have spent that kind of money on a one year old child who will not remember any of it except for looking at the photos. They will have a spoiled brat who will not be liked by other children.

They have millions and millions of dollars at their disposal. $200 thousand to them is a drop in the bucket. It is their money and they can do what they want to do with it. I just wish they could drop that amount in my bucket.

Why yes or no? It's not too much money, considering 30k, gifts to attendees, imaging all the peoplettyst got paid to help make this day special. Caters, decorators, security, beauty and barber shops, limos and drivers, etc. Will Ivy remember this day? Of course, you don't they hired photographers and video, sound, light and othe crew? This was a production. ivy will have pictures to remind her, in addition, she'll have a Barbie doll worth 80k when she was 1yo. Image it's value later. I wish we could all host parties like this, but I can't hate them because they can and did.

Willing to spend that much money doesn't prove anything but the fact that they can afford it. They certainly love Blue Ivy, but you don't have to go as all-out as they did to show your love.

It's all relative. They are enormously wealthy and famous and Beyonce is the first woman to ever have a child of her own, so she is entitled to spend as frivolously as she wishes on the most beautiful girl in the world's birthday. And we should all pay very close attention to every little thing that angel-child does. It's FASCINATING stuff.

For a baby's first birthday they don't need to spend that much money even tho she's rich. The party is for the baby not them.

I am a capitalist - 100% However, this type of spending, to me, is pathetic. There are so many things these two could have done that would have "honored" they're daughter. Build a ward @ St. Judes Children's Cancer Research and name the wing Blue. Fund 200 orphanages with a child's clothing line with her name as the Brand Tag. Help our Wounded Warriers, the Homeless People & animals. I could go on and on. These two remind me of low-class New Money. Have no idea what to do with a nickel, I think this is horrible and good luck with the kid! Maybe they should have named their daughter Paris-Hilton-Ivy Z?? She can grow up saying, "That's Hot".

can't she have a moment where it only involves her and her friends? why she gotta bring in a bunch of strangers because people like you want her to donate to the needy? You got it, can afford it, spend it. My first child first bday is for her, not some orphane, someone with cancer, but for her.

I know, celebrities. You love your baby girl but she's going to turn into a spoiled little princess if you spoil her. And they are. Big time.
