But, I want to be fair and answer the question in reality. The best Series go 7 games and give a ton of drama. Recently there haven't been a lot of 7 game World Series.
It must be between the 2001 and 2002 World Series. In 2002 you had a first time team full of scrappy stars taking on the Giants and Barry Bonds. That the Angels were able to overcome that threat was fantastic. And it was near to my heart as David Eckstein and Scott Spiezio both played critical roles in helping the 2006 Cards win their Series.
But my head tells me its the 2001 Series. The juggernaut Yankees that had won 4 of the previous 5 World Series. A team that had (and still has) the best closer of all time. It was cast in the light of the aftermath of 9/11 a month earlier. It had dramatic wins for both teams on their home fields. And it came down to a walkoff hit off of said most dominant closer to win it for Arizona. I love the Cardinals but I follow the Yankees too. Even so, 2001 was clearly the most dramatic and intriguing Series in recent memory.
