The Shawshank Redemption, with Green Mile as a close second. I prefer King's drama over his horror.

Went with "Stand By Me," but it's a close contest. A lot of the titles I listed are good movies. This one had a great nostalgic feel to it that worked perfectly, and it was very funny and touching at the same time. Certainly one of Rob Reiner's best directing efforts. And who can forget River Phoenix and the cast, who seemed to work so well together? On another day I may have chosen "The Shawshank Redemption," "The Green Mile" or "Misery." Interesting side note: A few directors have taken on more than one Stephen King project. Rob Reiner made both "Stand By Me" and "Misery"; Frank Darabont did "Shawshank" and "Green Mile." Mick Garris may have done the most: "Sleepwalkers," "The Stand," "The Shining" (TV version), "Riding the Bullet," "Desperation," and "Bag of Bones."

Cat's Eye comes to mind. Has a young Drew Barrymore in it. Was a great movie and I don't remember the rating but I think it's safe for most kids to watch too. Has plenty of funny moments in it, like this one scene where this guy kicks this bird that's been pecking away at his feet.

I would say no kid under 12, since it is rated PG-13. Of course, today some kids have seen much more violent stuff, but it's not a kids movie by any stretch.

I didn't say it was a kids movie, just that I believe it's safe for most kids to watch.

Spooky miniseries later redited and released to theaters. Be sure to see the longer cut, not the truncated version!
