Bernardo Bertolucci Goes 3D: Will Art Film Make Better Use of 3D?

Not everyone is a fan of the 3D trend, but "The Dreamers" director Bernardo Bertolucci explained at the Cannes Film Festival this year that adapting the technology for his own avant garde film projects will put that pesky third D to good use.

I loved 'Avatar' and I was fascinated by the 3D. I started to think, why is 3D considered good only for horror or science fiction or these kinds of movies? I thought, if '8 1/2' by Fellini was in 3D, wouldn't it be great?

The Associated Press reports that his next film, "Io e Te," will incorporate 3D elements even though there will only be two characters and one room for the entire movie.

We're intrigued.
