Professional sports qualify as entertainment. The Olympics has a different purpose. Women wearing skimpy bikinis doesn't promote the message of the Olympics -- and offends many nations who have modest cultures. I don't want to suit up the Olympic athletes in hijabs and burqas, but I think we can find a traditional middle ground.Rush hour traffic was brought to a standstill this morning as Great Britain's female beach volleyball team posed on the roadside in their bikini tops and briefs.

I don't have a problem with bikinis, but I always felt like these were a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen and just kind of ridiculous. I mean is anybody really watching the sport and not just the girls' asses? Honestly? It seems like boyshorts like these would be just as cool, more Olympic sport friendly, and less dirty old man friendly.lol

Apparent more people are interested in the cheesecake than the actual sport event.
Getting away with being hot supersedes being taken serious as athletes in this exercise of political grandstanding.

I agree with some of the moderate countries. I don't feel it is a competition of how good you can wear a bikini. It's all about the volleyball game. I know that most of it is Played on the beach, but there is a liimit!..

If the focus is athletic prowess based on competition, perhaps the higher road is soemthing more modest, though, as I recall, the original games were comprised of partially or totally nude participants? Am I close?
Don't get me wrong, I'm in to beach volleyball every four years mates, I just don't know where my drooling should stop and the true ideal of Olympic sport should pick up. For the record, I'm in looooove here. ;p

Fef, you're being sexist. Why not criticize the men's swim teams? Those "swimming trunks" hide less than the women's bikini bottoms.

And, of course, the original Greek Olympic athletes were mostly nude. Sigh, nobody respects tradition anymore.

Sports uniforms are determined by the sport and the athletes, not prudes who hate the human body.
