Barbara Walters Disses Queen Elizabeth: Does She Have a 'Sour Face'?

Did you catch the Olympic Opening Ceremonies last Friday? We found the whole thing kind of boring, but one highlight was the bit with Queen Elizabeth and James Bond (there's a good sport, we thought!). Well, Barbara Walters agrees with us ... but only to a point. The legendary celeb interviewer thinks the Queen's skit with Daniel Craig was funny ... but she has a problem with Her Majesty's "sour face."

queen elizabeth

"Let me tell you my thing with the Queen," Walters said on "The View." "I did agree that the whole thing with Daniel Craig was funny… [but] this is a woman who does not know how to smile. ...It’s such a sour face."

She also has an issue with the Queen's sense of style. "She is 86, but she dresses like something out of the 19th century, Walters said. “The pink dress with the pink plume, but then the black gloves and the black bag -- what does the Queen keep in that bag anyway? She never changes." Walters has a point about the Queen, but she was a good sport in that Bond skit. And she always looks pretty queenly to us. How about you?

Barbara seems to be a bit on the jealous side ..
    of a TRUE Lady .. a Queen ..
that has definitely embraced her years ..
and proudly (Still!) carries herself for the world to see ..
Quite a story of survival too written in her life ..
from her birth .. through WWII .. to now .. and such a large family!

After years of seeing photos and portraits of her with an open, overall happy, serene look to see her looking like she had a hot pickle stuffed up her rump was a shock to put it mildly.

You can't sit there with a smile on your face every minute. She would be complaining that the queen looked senile in that case. Babs is just used to the fake hollywood people and not people who age naturally.

I thought H.M. the Queen looked quite elegant. More so than I've seen Barbara Walters look lately. Those who are knowledgeable of the Queen know that she has a "wicked sense of humor" and delightfully enjoys a good joke. She is also eighty-six years old, it was a bit late, a bit loud, aa bit l-o-n-g, and probably somewhat overwhelming. The Queen was probably concentrating on "taking it all in." I know there were times I left watching to complete some chores around my house, and managed to finish a whole load of laundry while watching the opening ceremonies!

Baloney. Many, I dare say most people her age are happy. If you can't crack a smile when the whole purpose of some pissy queen is to inspire her subjects the old bat should be able to crack a smile, all she has to do is think about the billion or more in ill gotten loot the old bitty accumulated. The truth is queeny is bored out of her skull, resents being dragged to the Olympics, like if she had anything better to do which is commical. She never lifted a finger in her whole useless life.

I mean she didn't look very happy to be there and I was kind of mad she wasn't smiling, but she's 86 years old! She's the queen of England, I'm pretty sure she can do whatever the hell she wants.
  • Mikey Christine 2012/08/02 14:06:36

Ah, but that's rub. She's da freakin' queen but she can't do whatever the hell she wants. It was her DUTY to be there. She IS England. What 86 year old woman really wants to go such a spectacle? She has to go where she has to go. She's the public face of her country and the 990 years of royalty behind it. She has zero government authority. She can express no opinion, can't vote and doesn't even have a say if the institution she serves can even exist.

Queen Elizabeth is past the age of looking sexy she looks beautiful. She is a true lady of grace and poise that represents her country very well. Not a lot of trash we hear or see in the papers. Barbara needs to try to remember that is very unbecoming to talk trash about such a Majestic figure.

What a sycophant. What's so special or "precious" about the matriarch of a family that gathered its wealth by oppressing people for centuries and forcing them to relinquish to the Family the fruits of their labors? She's simply the oldest heiress of a mafia fortune. Shame on you for believing and espousing the myth of the noble nobility.

If you had been to Europe the different cultures are history in the making. I have lived overseas for 16 yrs loved the way each country believed and lived. Something to embrace to say the least. When you want to talk about people that relinquish their fortune to the government that is exactly what Obama wants maybe you should be in on the ground floor of diving your money and giving to your neighbors that do not work but love to eat and drink their life away. Talking trash will only get you so far in life.

You are watching the last vestiges of monarchical privilege. That's not a thing of beauty. It's pomp that was used to convince the lower classes that these people were god's representatives on earth and full of power so they would not rebel against political theft (taxation). When democracy was introduced, they still kept the majority of their privilege and the booty they had confiscated throughout the centuries. Over time they have lost much of the official power, but they retained most of the money, significant portions of land and apparently the undeserved awe that kept the lower classes peacefully subservient.

With democracy, you have very little change insofar as the political class still resides in comparative opulence to those who are coerced to provide their easy lives. The lower classes may vote for a ruler but what they cannot ever choose is not to have a ruler and not to be compelled to hand over a significant portion of their earnings (i.e. they must work to feed the political class). The significant difference is that the ones voting believe they make a difference (a horrible lie) and those who are politicians must take more in order to attempt to bribe enough of those voting to vote for them rather than the other guy. The only differences between those who ...

The only differences between those who are being voted for is which people the particular politician feels obliged to pay off-and even then, they seem to share the same owners for the most part, with differing degrees of fealty.

As to your comments about Obama, he's no less a parasite than any other politician-past present and future-and he's only the worst until the next one comes along. My choice would be to see them shut the doors to DC, have all the politicians return to their homes, find productive employment and stop taking their living from the people who actually work. Politicians aren't just useless, they are a drain on the economy and a danger to the community over which they preside and to the rest of the world-as were the monarchs that preceded them. I'm against all socialism, not just Obama's. War is just as socialist as social security, corporate bailouts, personal and corporate welfare (subsidies), medicare/Obamacare, etc. Any time you take money by force from others to pay for public goods and services, you're adhering to socialism. You are enslaving your fellow to pay for the things you want. That is immoral.

If you wish to provide an easy living for politicians, be they Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Peace and Freedom, Constitutional Party, Green Party or Communist Party, I would only ask that you do so with your own money and stop believing that it's moral to compel your neighbors and those you do not know to surrender the fruits of their labor as well. Let the politicians and bureaucrats earn a living like the rest of us, not by force, but through voluntary trade, creating goods and rendering services people choose to purchase.

Thank you for your advise however, I choose to believe the old fashioned way that we do indeed need the different classes of people. There are the haves and the have nots. I respect your believe just not a real way of live. After living in many countries I have never seen what you describe as what you think should be the way of life. Good Luck if you ever find what you believe to be right I wish you the best just do not hold your breath.

The Queen is trying to be a little more Modern in he attire. Good on her, especially at that age. Always somebody gonna complain about it though. So she got caught looking a little frowny - do you forget her age and possible health issues - they can't have a fake smile plastered on their faces 24/7 like the Hollywood crowd - this is England - the home of rain and misery, and she's being perfect, so leave the poor woman alone. Maybe all you people are used to the botoxed, plastic surgery face lifted oldies in Hollywood, which they can barely smile let alone frown which is the usual look for an untouched, elderly person's face in it's natural order. Yes, factual.
