Axl Rose Declines Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction: Understandable or Awkward?

Usually, Hall of Fame inductions are cause for celebration. Not for Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose. He's not only skipping the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, scheduled for this Saturday, but is apparently declining the honor entirely, citing the age-old drama between him and Slash as the main reason. Slash had expressed a willingness to reunite "with blinders on," but it looks like that's not going to happen.

Rose said in a letter, "I won't be attending The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction 2012 Ceremony and I respectfully decline my induction as a member of Guns N' Roses to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized nor may anyone be permitted to accept any induction for me or speak on my behalf ... Time to move on. People get divorced. Life doesn’t owe you your own personal happy ending especially at ... others' expense." Wise words from Axl Rose. Do you think his decision to decline the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honor is understandable?

He needs Slash more than Slash needs him.

His re-worked Guns N' Roses is garbage, and the only thing keeping Axl in the news are his petty antics.

Slash on the other hand is a rock guitar icon and a successful solo/group musician.

Hey let him continue burning his bridges! However the R&R; HOFF has become quite the joke lately so I don't really blame him.

He's right to say what he thinks and he did it in a more respectful manner than he would have done in the past. Nonetheless, I can't stomach the guy. I love Guns n Roses music, but I never could stand Axl Rose and still can't. I don't think you're ever too old to rock and roll if you're too young to die (Ian Anderson said it, I just stole it) but Axl is a has-been douchebag and made himself so by his own actions. He thinks he's still relevant, but he isn't and hasn't been for a long time. I'd like to wish him well, but really I wish he'd just go away.

It is one thing to decline to attend (Remember Marlon Brando at the Oscars). It is another to refuse the honor being offered. He is an ingrate, but he should be inducted in absentia just so the historical record is accurate.

If the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame operates under the same guidelines as the Nobel Peace Prize, then Axl is to be commended for essentially telling them to phuck off!!

Axl was not the center piece of Guns N' Roses.
Apart from this, his actions were way too overwhelming and completely overshadowed his career.

Sounds like he sobered up enough to realized how bad they were, and is too embarrassed to accept praise for that garbage they made back then.

I was kinda torn between the two answers. I wish there was an "other" option...Anyways, I understand him not wanting to go in, but it's not really him that's being inducted- it's Guns 'N Roses as a whole. So, it is a bit awkward as well XD

He was eloquent.. he was mature and he was right. If the falling out between himself and Slash was that severe, I can certainly understand his desire to not re-open those sutures. It also, in my opinion, says a lot about his convictions; that's a hell of an honor he's passing down... a shame, but certainly understandable.

First, Axl isn't being inducted into the Hall-It's Guns 'n' Roses.
Axl stated very clearly that he did not want to joint the group in the induction ceremony because after the massive fight the band had, leaving them was a "divorce". Re-uniting to acept an award 'would be like celebrating the marraige after the divorce. It isn't something I want to remember.' It shouldn't be a major deal; Slash or Izzy can accept the award and the induction. Axl doesn't want to be a part of it and his wish should be respected.
