Here's a sight you don't see very often. The Los Angeles Lakers are officially eliminated from the Western Conference Playoffs in the second round. The Oklahoma City Thunder's young legs out-hustled the Lakers in four out of five games to put the series away in Game 5 via a final score of 106-90. This wraps up head coach Mike Brown's first season with the Lakers. It's one that's been met with a lot of disappointment.
Considering all the talent on the team with Kobe Bryant (who had 42 points in Game 5), Andrew Bynum, Metta World Peace, and Pau Gasol, this season is definitely a forgettable one by the Lakers' high championship standards. But it just never clicked this season. The Denver Nuggets nearly eliminated the Lakers in seven games and the Thunder may have slipped one game, but never took their eyes off the prize.
It also helps if you're the Thunder with two great, clutch All-Star players that aren't even 25 yet in Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant. Westbrook scored 28 points, while Durant added 25 of his own and 10 rebounds. We imagine this is probably sweet revenge for Sixth Man of The Year James Harden, who got viciously elbowed by World Peace (aka Ron Artest) about a month ago. The Lakers have a lot of questions to answer heading to this offseason. Kobe Bryant is almost guaranteed to stay put. But as for everyone else around him? Wait and see.

- dekecds 2012/05/27 15:58:16NoWhere ever Kobe is, there can only be one other complimentary star. Can't have artest as his back up, because they are too much alike and artest is only as good as his uncalled fouls. If I were the lakers and I wanted to keep Kobe, I'd trade off some of the rest of the talent and buy another superstar that doesn't mind sharing Kobe's glory, perhaps in his shadow like Shaq did.reply

- AngelaDuke 2012/05/24 20:02:04NoThe only reason they weren't out before is because Kobe was playing. Take Kobe out and they wouldn't have made it even this farreply
- Tre 2012/05/24 19:30:15 (edited)NoNah, because Mitch Kupchik is the worst general manager ever. Whenever they wake up and decide to get rid of Gasol and Bynum's sorry asses, the Lakers will be good again providing they get the right pieces for Kobe. The problem is that Kobe probably only has about 3 solid good yrs left so if they get it wrong again this off season, it could b a disaster for my Lakers!reply

reply - joeman 2012/05/24 06:36:41NoThey are 1 dimensional. Kobe an that's it. Does'nt matter who else they bring in, Kobe's the go to guy and he's at the end of his career. Kobe is great but cant carry them by himself anymore. And thats the kind of player he is, he has to have the ball all the time or he's not happy. Like Iverson was only Kobe was better, but they both have to control the game no matter what. Even if they'd be a better team if they moved the ball around more. They/He had a good run but sorry Laker fans its over.reply

- patchulie 2012/05/23 22:58:53NoThis was a strange year, with the strike, new coach, and all these new trades, I can hardly keep up...I am a die hard Laker fan and this hurts me, to my core, but they are unable to become a cohesive unit, when you bring new people...youth is always good, but when you trade someone like Derek Fisher(which I am not happy about), they KNOW how to PLAY in playoffs...the Lakers will get their groove back, and with the right chemistry, we WILL see another ring soon(I love you KOBE)reply

- fooley177 2012/05/23 20:17:01No+1First of all, Mike Brown SUCKS. Secondly, the Lakers have only three good players, Bryant, Gasol, and Bynum. The rest of the team is a bunch of also rans, and who do they have at point guard? Do they even HAVE a point guard. Meta World Peace can't shoot, and you don't go to far with only one legitimate perimeter scoring threat. San Antonio is a better and deeper team than the Lakers. And did I mention that Bryant is no spring chicken?reply
