Are You Sad to See the Olympics Wrap Up?

The 2012 Olympics are officially over, but the last two weeks have left its viewers and athletes with memories that will last a lifetime. It was at the London Games that fans saw swimmer Michael Phelps raise his medal count to 22 (18 gold) to solidify his legacy as arguably the greatest Olympian of all-time.

Basketball's Team USA may not be the legendary 1992 Dream Team, but the group of NBA's best were able to defeat Spain and capture the gold in a valiant effort. Ryan Lochte won gold and made himself a household name for the right--and slightly questionable--reasons. American wrestler Jordan Burroughs lived up to his Twitter name of "All I see is gold."

And gymnast Gabrielle Douglas at the young age of 16, captured the gold medal and inspired millions. Douglas is also in line to make millions and is now able to take care of her mother, who filed for bankruptcy before her star-making performance. Of course, those are just some of the athletes and moments that make this year's Olympics one to remember.

USA leads the medal count as the Olympics come to a close, but China and Russia both had strong showings as well. Don't forget, you can stream the closing ceremony live on NBCOlympics.com after registering or watch it on tape delay at 9:30pm/ET Sunday night. So until 2016, Summer Olympics . . . Parting is such sweet sorrow.

I enjoyed every minute of it. The Opening Ceremony, the upsets and the surprises during the games and I'm loving the Closing Ceremony at the moment. However, life must go on. The Games will come again... in Rio de Janeiro! :D

me to I don't think America neads them for the next 25yrs. Let other countries host it.

I agree other countries should hold it but to be honest, I didn't want to be bothered by all the traffic we might've had ;)

It made me sad how the people were so intent on getting the Olympics in Chicago more so than fixing the CPS's budget :(
  • MissJo cheetah... 2012/08/13 08:49:41
    MissJo
Technically, Olympics would bring in a lot of tourism and thus a lot of cash. Maybe it's not fixing the budget, but it would definitely help Chicago's economy.

I don't care either way, I'm just saying.

On the other hand, we were 50th in medals per capita and got c. 60% of our total medals in 2 sports, swimming and track. Sad to see declines in so many Olympic sports, rowing, sailing, wrestling, archery, boxing, etc.
Enjoyed the best US track effort since we dominated up until 1972. (Not counting 1984)

I really enjoyed... The Opening and Closing Ceremony, all very exciting. It's a pity that the next Olympic Games won't be as prosperous because Brazil doesn't have enough structure for an event of this size. I also imagine the flop that will be the World Cup...

Only if they try and make Paul McCartney sing again. Someone should take his millions and retire. I won't mention any names.
