The 2012 Olympics are officially over, but the last two weeks have left its viewers and athletes with memories that will last a lifetime. It was at the London Games that fans saw swimmer Michael Phelps raise his medal count to 22 (18 gold) to solidify his legacy as arguably the greatest Olympian of all-time.
Basketball's Team USA may not be the legendary 1992 Dream Team, but the group of NBA's best were able to defeat Spain and capture the gold in a valiant effort. Ryan Lochte won gold and made himself a household name for the right--and slightly questionable--reasons. American wrestler Jordan Burroughs lived up to his Twitter name of "All I see is gold."
And gymnast Gabrielle Douglas at the young age of 16, captured the gold medal and inspired millions. Douglas is also in line to make millions and is now able to take care of her mother, who filed for bankruptcy before her star-making performance. Of course, those are just some of the athletes and moments that make this year's Olympics one to remember.
USA leads the medal count as the Olympics come to a close, but China and Russia both had strong showings as well. Don't forget, you can stream the closing ceremony live on NBCOlympics.com after registering or watch it on tape delay at 9:30pm/ET Sunday night. So until 2016, Summer Olympics . . . Parting is such sweet sorrow.
