RALEIGH, N.C. _ North Carolina's community college system voted Friday to admit undocumented immigrants at its campuses next year, a move unlikely to bring an immediate surge in undocumented students given a requirement that they pay higher tuition. read more http://www.diverseeducation.com/artman/publish/article_13068....

And look at the price. We worry more about offending those from other countries or being accused of targeting. Whenever I have been on a military installation I have always felt safer there than anywhere else in the world and now look!

They still want to refer to it as murders, I believe that it was a terrorist act... planned by someone else, I doubt however he was doing it for his religion, ideology... so that is the reason I call it a terrorist act.

Want to get madder? Read this....By contrast, between 2001 and 2006, 10 states – among them California, Kansas, and New York – passed legislation awarding in-state tuition rates to undocumented students. The issue is current again in California, where a new bill would let undocumented students qualify for financial aid.

here here.... I have a daughter in college and we get zip do dah! This country, states and yes universities are going broke, and they cant figure it out? I cant believe that they can count on their votes, because dont you have to register to vote? and in order to vote dont you have to be legal? I am guessing NO!

exactly.. So then how in the hell, can they get to vote, a drivers license, Get state/federal help, or any other government services.. I mean if they are illegal and not supposed to be why doesn't immigration pick them up when person X is found to be here illegally, and then just thrown back on a log or two and pushed back out to sea...

I am assuming that it is because that would not be politically correct and from what I understand all candidates depend on their votes... but how they get valid DL is beyond me. I suppose some will do anything for the right amount of money.

What's the problem? Where does it say it is free? They pay almost 5 times more than in-state residents don't they?

"But they also would have to pay the out-of-state tuition rate of $7,700 per year with full course loads, or nearly five times the in-state rate, according to system data. They also couldn't qualify for financial aid or supplant students who are legally in the U.S. on crowded campuses."

Really, no problem? Read this.... By contrast, between 2001 and 2006, 10 states – among them California, Kansas, and New York – passed legislation awarding in-state tuition rates to undocumented students. First of all define illegal - An illegal immigrant; Contrary to or forbidden by law, especially criminal law; Not permitted by rules; Totally fictitious, and often issued on behalf of a non-existent territory or country; Being an illegal immigrant; residing in a country illegally

So they get to go to our schools, and yes in some states they receive financial aid, they receive free medical care, they receive welfare. So dont tell me that they dont qualify. They should not be here in the first place. They should have NO rights, period!

I thought we were talking about N.C. and it appears to me that they can pay a higher tuition than regular students...

I would also welcome them into my store where they can buy my products and I can make a profit. Do you think companies have the Spanish option on their phone systems to be p.c.? No, they do it to make a profit because both legal and illegal Spanish speaking people have money to spend like anybody else.

It is fine to oppose illegal immigration, but you should do so fairly. How many businesses do you support w/your dollars that hire workers who they know have fake documents? If we hire them, they will come.
  • KC pocket ... 2009/12/09 19:04:17
    KC
you know as I said, where do you stop this process? Stop allowing them to stay here, period.... we would not be having this discussion. You want to talk about profits you are a business owner, I spell that as greed, you put your pocket before what is legally right. I am not sure which stores or etc that I patronize are greedy and choose to put themselves above abiding by the law...

Do I think that Spanish option are being p.c., not mainly, I feel that they are catering to ILLEGALs period.

You are looking through the me me glasses and not seeing the negative impact that this is having on our country. And fake documents... believe me if I was a business owner and someone could not speak a word of English, no amount of documentation would matter to me.

What is fair... you are either LEGAL OR ILLEGAL!
  • pocket ... KC 2009/12/10 19:50:36

It is not up to me to sell products to only English speakers. It is not up to me to enforce immigration laws. As a business, you offer a product or service to whomever is willing and able to purchase it. We do have tourists you know and they may not speak English.

To the bigger issue, there are people here both legally and illegally. They may have children. Do you want those children to have nothing to do and get into trouble?

Immigrants have been coming here for years and often never learn to speak English. They may speak German or Japanese or French but many of the 1st generation who come don't learn English (some do). Their children almost always do.

I don't disagree w/you that there is a problem, but it is a complicated problem that requires some amount of pragmatism.
  • KC pocket ... 2009/12/11 03:27:53

Funny you say that some may never speak english.... my sister in laws mother had to learn english to pass her test to become a LEGAL citizen of the United States... that is my point, you want to come to America, come here the right way... and one of the right ways is to learn our language.

You know there is a citizenship test, right?
  • pocket ... KC 2009/12/11 18:02:41

Yes, my wife took it and she is a citizen.

You do know that you can be a legal resident here w/out being a citizen, right?
  • KC pocket ... 2009/12/11 20:05:30
    KC
yes unfortunately, I believe that after a short period of time you should have to become a citizen. I do not think that it is right for anyone to receive the perks of the US unless you go through the steps and guidelines to be a citizen.

    Have a great day!

They also make up a large chunk of our prison system. Makes sense, commit a crime and get free housing, food, and rehabilitation.
  • KC Helo Chick 2009/12/09 02:29:52
    KC
Well, I have to say that the US has given absolutely no incentive to abide by the law, if you allow them to stay here and then arrest them for committing another crime, why would they think that they will get in trouble for it. And as you said as long as they continue to receive free benefits, why not?

They have done this in California for awhile. So while parents of students born here must struggle to find college loans and then pay for them in an economy where there are no jobs, illegals get it for free. Just more in an endless stream of freebies along with healthcare in return for votes from grateful illegals.

Yep, I hear you.... I am one of those parents... I am not saying that we cant do it but it would have been nice, my daughter worked very very hard to have a perfect resume, and where did that get her, zip do dah, nothing! #1 out of 438, considered a minority - female in the engineering field, still zip do dah....

We the US itend to overlook the talent in our own back yards... we are recruiting heavly in other countries... Giving F-1 Visas to out of country students for flight school, and extending the visas to allow them to work here after graduating... can anyone say that this sounds familiar.

I research Higher Ed for a living and you would not believe the news that I come across... it is ridiculous and the Universities along with this Administration are pushing all of this!

    Thanks for your comment!

My daughter graduated cumlaude with a 3.8 something GPA. Yet she knows people who barely made a 2.0 who were offered jobs based on nothing more than filling a quota. My kids worked all the way through school which means they know how to handle a dollar and pinch a penny. Their peers who had subsidies or who had Mommy and Daddy pay for everything are now struggling with big student loans AND credit card debt. My daughter wants to get her MFA and teach and choreograph on the college level. But try getting a grad degree scholarship unless you are a "special" group. I think it's part of trying to level out society by denying some people access based on nothing but race.

Can I give you a big HOOOOOT! I feel your pain, everybody said, oh your daughter will get a full ride, no 1, scholar athlete, mentored for a chemical company, on a team that built and launched a rocket with NASA and now interns with NASA (she had to apply for) works 10 weeks during the summer (which we are grateful for) however her school gave one of her best friends, a black male graduated #12 in her class a full tuition scholarship in engineering... his dad is a engineer and his mother is a RN, their house cost 3 times mine... but because they were looking for diversity, he got the scholarship and then after the first semester decided that he did not want to go into engineering, so I thought well they (The engineering department) will take the scholarship back and put it back in the pool, nope didnt happen.

My daughter has worked very hard, and as far as I am concerned they pretty much told her, oh thats great but guess what you are not part of the quota. I told her to go to the diversity office (because she is considered a minority in her major) she said mom I will never use my gender or race to excel... if my accomplishments are not good enough so be it.

My daughter has been checking out Grad schools... she wants to get her Phd in engineering... fortunately it appears that a lot of schools if you apply for the Phd program, they will give you a full ride but you have to do research. She can handle that.

    Good luck to your daughter!

I remember in the late 70's when the boat people started arriving---they gave them 3% home loans w/ nothing down (rates then were between 9-15% for regular Legal Americans w/ 25% down), 1% Business loans and in some cases they built the businesses for them and OF COURSE FREE College @ State UNIVERSITIES--not just the Jr Colleges. My best friend in the whole world choose to go to College while I entered the Army. Her father died on active duty w/ the Army with 30 years in. She attended Jr Colleges for 3 years to get all her pre reqs and available courses done at a more reasonable rate then she transferred to Irvine State (pricey but good education back in that day). She ran into a "boat" person who could barely speak English and she was starting her Freshman Year all expenses paid by You & Me & my friend's Dead Father. Is our government just GRAND??? Perhaps its time for us to put our eyeballs on another country---I kind of like the idea of taking over Australia---It has diversified climates and they already speak English.. What do you think---leave our beloved country with the treason-led administration to the illegals and we'll just mosey on over to Australia? They would probably enjoy our company--they don't like liberals either!

EXACTLY---I was born & raised in CA most of my life and I can't STAND to go back there for any reason. My husband did a joint exercise w/ the Ausies and they stayed w/ us a few days when we were stationed in Hawaii. What a GREAT bunch of folks and they still have a ton of common sense that is sorely missing in WASHDC right now.
