It has been over ten years since the entertainment business lost a talented young recording artist and actress in Aaliyah Haughton (stage name Aaliyah) in a tragic plane crash. Even though she was only 22 years old at the time of her death, she left a major mark in the entertainment industry, arguably when she really started to peak. According to a report by HipHopDX.com, one major artist looks to keep her legacy alive with a new album.

Top recording artist Drake is rumored to be producing a posthumous Aaliyah album, although the rapper/singer has yet to confirm or deny the report. Drake is reportedly working mostly on the production side (i.e. instrumentals, beats, creative direction). It is expected that he will also release a new single that features Aaliyah (most likely sampled from her past tracks or unreleased material).

In the past, Drake has sampled Aaliyah's classic "At Your Best (You Are Love)" in his single "Unforgettable" and even has a tattoo in tribute to the late singer. To say Drake is an Aaliyah fan is an understatement. But in the past, Aaliyah's closest friends and producers in Timbaland and Missy Elliot said they firmly believe any posthumous work wouldn't be released without their approval. It is unknown whether Drake has reached out to the duo most synonymous with Aaliyah's career as of press time. If the project sees the light of day, it would be the first posthumous Aaliyh album since 2002 and second overall.

Aaliyah was an amazing artist. Her death was a real tragedy. I would be interested in buying a posthumous album of hers, her music was amazing. I still listen to many of her songs.

Actually, viruses aren't all bad, they make us stronger by building immunities and evolving. Society can actually benefit from viruses.

Drake needs to leave Aaliyah alone and worry about his own doggone career. Drake maybe cute but he can barely sing let alone rap. If he produced an Aaliyah album I would not buy it nor download it.

just let her RIP. why try bringing her back have the dead stay dead.she everything ended with her on a good note, she was at her peak and leave her there.we dont need any song with her voice featured in it what if it bombs and fails you'll be ruining her classic and tainting her name. come on just let her be dude

I loved Aaliyah's music! She had a BEAUTIFUL voice! However, I wouldn't want her music to be chopped and screwed by anyone else. RIP Aaliyah.

No, not really. It's a shame that she died, but I never was a big fan of hiphop to begin with.

Hip Hop is different from R&B. She was a R&B singer.

Her music was not hip hop....you don't know her music if you call it hip hop or do you even know what hip hop is?
  • Heisenberg SuperCee 2012/08/06 17:35:45

Yes, I know what hiphop and R&B are. I've heard a few of her songs, and they didn't do it for me. I'm not a big fan of either, so there you have it.

It's simple, Drake is doing this to pull the heart strings of Aaliyah's fans (making them want to buy the album) while introducing Aaliyah's unique style and pretty voice to the new generation (which I know they would love her to.).
But here's the thing............it's not her. This is not going to be her story, this is not her music, this is not her. I won't buy it simply because I know this is a money thing.

My only fear is the album will be poorly produced. If anyone produces the album, it should be Timbaland and Missy Elliott. They created her unique sound and successful hits.
