Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo was once thought of as the weak link of his team. Considering the Big Three of future Hall of Famers Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Kevin Garnett, it's easy to see why a young, inexperienced guy could be put in that category in 2008. In 2012, however, Rondo is highly regarded as one of the best point guards in the league. And in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Wednesday night, you could make the case for him being one of the NBA's best players.
The Miami Heat may have won Game 2 in overtime by a final score of 115-111, but once again, some not-so-good referee calls overshadowed that. But nothing could overshadow Rondo, who played some excellent basketball despite being on the losing side of things. Rondo scored a career-high 44 points, dished out 10 assists, and grabbed eight rebounds, for a near triple-double.
What's even more impressive is that Rondo showed no signs of slowing down, though he played all 53 minutes of Game 2. Rondo also scored all 12 overtime points for the Celtics, leading to head coach Doc Rivers being proud of his team's heart -- even with the loss. The series is far from over, as the Heat go to Boston for Games 3 and 4. Unfortunately as we mentioned before, the foul game did play a factor, as LeBron James took 24 free throw shots -- compared to the Celtics' overall 29. Regardless of that, were you impressed with Rajon Rondo's near-heroic performance?
