Long-time pitcher Jamie Moyer did the unthinkable Tuesday night. Moyer (1-2), at age 49, became the oldest pitcher to ever win a game in Major League Baseball history. Moyer's efforts helped the Colorado Rockies defeat the San Diego Padres 5-3. On a humorous note, Moyer didn't even realize what he accomplished.
"I wish I was a baseball historian," Moyer said after his historic, record-setting game. "I'm a little embarrassed to admit that. As players, we should know more about the game, the history of the game. You need to respect the game and the people that came before you."
While Moyer did make history, he said post-game that someone will break his age record, considering all the great athletes out there. For now though, the player with gray streaks of hair, nearing the age of 50, who was an afterthought this season, can lay claim to the record. Just don't call Jamie Moyer an old man when he can still win baseball games...

reply - biggerman 2012/04/18 21:06:54Yes+2Definitely - looking at the box score I see that he allowed 0 earned runs in 7 complete and even though he has 1-2 record, his ERA is 2.55 after three starts. That's good at any age. The fact that he is 49 years old make sit even more impressive.reply
