Silicon Era reports that Australia's Classification Board, which decides what ages to approve video games for, has leaked information about a demo for an upcoming "Sonic the Hedgehog" game called "Sonic Generations," which means creators could unleash it earlier than expected.

Can’t say we’re shocked since Sega released downloadable demos for Sonic the Hedgehog (the 2006 game with Silver) and Sonic Unleashed. But, why would the Classification Board rate it now? Seems a bit early unless Sega is going to surprise Sonic fans by releasing the E3 demo on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live during the show. That’s just a guess, though, Sega has not confirmed or announced a demo for Sonic Generations.

The first "Sonic the Hedgehog" game was released for the Sega Genesis in 1991, and has continued to serve as one of Sega's most iconic creations.

How could you not get excited? Last year SEGA has spoiled it's fans with outstanding Sonic games like Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing, Sonic 4 and Sonic Colours on both the Wii and DS. Sonic's rep. has been "maliciously" exaggerated to the point where people say Sonic hasn't had a good game since the 90's while amazing Sonic games that have been coming out after that like Sonic Adventure 1&2, Sonic Advanced & Rush series including the one's I listed above have been flying over people's heads like seagulls.

I'd say recognize the good ones, look to the future because it seems to be looking bright from the sun looking at all those seagulls.

I think the last good sonic game came out in the mid-90's. Everything since then has been crap. With a track record like that, how could I get excited?

It's too early to say. There haven't been very many good Sonic games in recent years (though apparently Sonic Colors was good). Hopefully they'll be back on track and come out with another killer Sonic game but at this point there's hardly any info on this one so I'm not excited yet.
