Before my time, but I get called a hippy quite often. Suppose cos I'm quite laid back and try to have love and peace for everyone.
And , no, punks don't really hate hippies !

No. We had a funeral in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco in late 67 where we buried the Hippie name and all became "Freedmen". SO, I'm a Freedman now.
Just so you know.....that's dead. It was a happening...and you had to have been alive during the great social revolutionary experiment of the '60's, which I was. There is no duplicating, or replicating that generation. I know, because I was a child of it. Anyone who was not there at the time is a freakin' fake and a wannabe. Case closed.
those are all regional things, impacting only your geographic arena. Was I "there." I was.....from "if it feels good, do it," to Woodstock, riots, and Haight Ashbury and the Beatles. I don't have to have attended a ballroom to hear Grace Slick to remember who she was, anymore than being present for Buffalo Springfiled or Maryanne Faithful or Blind Faith and the Kinks. My generation was comprised of so much more.
Well, considering that what some might call a "Regional Geographhic Area" others might characterize as Ground Zero of the Summer of Love. I take your point. And I DID grow up in the SF Bay Area from the mid-60's to the early 70's, I guess you could say I was "There".
Now that you mention it I sort of am! and not the "mainstream, clique" kind of hippie either..lol..I protest for peace and against animal testing, I play at "hippie-fest" music festivals, I don't give any effort for my appearance because I'm tree planter plus I just don't care, and I sit in circles playing guitar and singing with people... I mean, I'm not much into labels and I've never labeled myself, but if I did have a label that's probably what I'd be 0_0
I've been called a hippie too many times for me to count in a cool way and in a rude way, but I'm only 18 so there is so way i can be a true hippie. It's just cause of my beliefs and lifestyle I suppose? Idk, I've never identified myself as one.
I fit into more of an outlaw hippie. Not all peace and love or naive sunshine and lollipops. I have seen to much of the world to buy the we can all get along BS. Plus Hippies don't carry a gun. I do
The spiritual home for hippies and the ideology of peace and love...it all seems so long ago, and has been replaced with the need for greed, thanks for the vid :) I think these lyrics best sum up how life has changed...
kind of, but not a mega hippie. I want peace and love but dressing like a hippie is not a good idea where I live. The chance of freezing to death is too high.

Or maybe not.
You SHOULD remember going to the Avalon Ballroom to see these guys:
