Every few years, the Olympics present us with athletes who, through their athletic talents and unique personalities, end up becoming stars. Most notably over the last decade, we've gotten to know USA soccer's Hope Solo, snowboarding's Shaun White, and swimming kingpin, who's now the owner of the all-time Olympic medal total, Michael Phelps. Now meet Phelps' gold medalist teammate, Ryan Lochte.

Lochte has been a polarizing personality during the 2012 Olympics. On the one hand, he is an excellent swimmer and gold medal winner, bringing up the medals count for the U.S. On the other hand, he finds himself in the gossip mags (whether on purpose or by accident) leading people to either love or hate him. Case in point: his decision to rock a $25,000 red, white, and blue grill, courtesy of rapper/jeweler Paul Wall.

Then, there's the quotes from Lochte himself about being a self-proclaimed trendsetter and rock star, that swimming war call he has in the form of "Jeah," and, oh, that time he urinated in the Olympic pool. Heck, even his own mother told Today that her son was into a lot of one night stands. That all being said, he is a winner, a great athlete, and may be using his newfound fame to pay his parents' bills in the near future.

Are You A Fan of Ryan Lochte

He doesn't feel the need to impress anyone with flowery words. What you see is what you get. That's the way everyone should be.

He's a good swimmer, I can appreciate that, His cockiness goes with being an athlete most great athletes are cocky, Muhammad Ali...Perfect example. If they do not believe in themselves they have already failed.

Is the fact that he's one of the thickest people on the planet inspiring too? Just wondering...
  • Liv pig soda 2012/08/07 00:49:06

A "thick" person wouldn't do anything and everything necessary to reach his dream, he worked and works so hard for this, it's beyond our comprehension how much dedication and focus this takes, he's committed and amazing and quite frankly I don't think he really cares what you think about him.
